Chapter 2: A Weird Maid
“Yes, I am awake!” Then she stood up as she answered.
“Then I’ll come in and serve you to dress up…”
The door was pushed open and a fifteen-odd-year-old girl walked in with a basin of water in her hands.
She was wearing a dark green outfit. And her face was full of pimples, with a pair of small eyes. She was kind of ugly.
She looked like a maid. Ji Wujin looked at her with a defensive smile. She couldn’t let anyone notice that she had just been reborn.
“Hi. You are early today…”
Xiaocui nodded in fear. With one quick look at Ji Wujin, she was more paranoid. What was wrong with this woman? She used to be tremendously mad when she got up too early as if someone owed her a big fortune. But why was she smiling at her today?
Thinking of this, Xiaocui felt creepier.
“What, what’s wrong again? Mama Jiao?”
“Ahem….” She wore a super kind smile, “don’t worry. Look at you. Your face looks so pale. How did you sleep last night?”
Giving Ji Wujin another quick look in fear, Xiaocui nodded hard. “Very well. Thank…Thank you for your concern.”
“You are welcome.” She leaned to Xiaocui warm-heartedly, “Well, wash face, right? Give it to me.”
Duang! Before Ji Wujin touched the basin, Xiaocui already moved it away in shock.
“Allow me, Mama Jiao.”
Why was the maid looking at her like she was looking at an evil?
Looking at Xiaocui without knowing what to do, Ji Wujin felt his scalp tingled. Does she notice something abnormal?
Xiaocui wetted the towel, helped her wipe her face quickly, and picked up the comb right away.
Ji Wujin stood there, looking at her innocently. The maid looked back at Ji Wujin with even more innocent eyes. They just stared at each other for quite a moment.
Bang! She sat down on the round stool by the bronze mirror because finally she understood what was going on.
“I have to sit down so that you can comb my hair, right? That I know. Haha…”
Xiaocui’s hands trembled a bit, glancing Ji Wujin quickly, and then started to work on Ji Wujin’s hair proficiently.
She was quite handy but she seemed upset as if something was bothering her.
The room was completely quiet, except for the sound of Xiaocui doing her hair. Ji Wujing took the chance to observe the woman in the mirror again.
The little face glowed especially after it was applied some makeup pearl powder. Her upturned eyes made her look kind of coquettish. And her mouth had slightly upward corners like she was always smiling. Every time she smiled, she was radiating some kind of indescribable flirtatiousness.
She was indeed good-looking and mischievous. Even among all the procuresses in the whole Feng City, Hua Wujiao was one and only.
Other procuresses were either fat or masculine, and most of them were middle-aged. Hua Wujiao was only 20 something and literally beautiful, which made her quite outstanding among those procuresses.
Being a brothel owner at such a young age proved that she was very capable. But why was her personal maid so ugly? Was she used to serve as a foil?
While she was woolgathering, a vendor cried for sale out of the window.
“Pancakes. Pancakes…”
Behind the bronze mirror was a big full control window. The whole Changle Street heaved in her sight, making her jaws dropped.
In the early spring morning, it was still foggy in the air. Those well-proportioned wooden houses were laid out along the whole Changle Street. People and carts were coming and going among the hustle and bustle of the city. It was barely bright day time. Vendors already cried for sale and sound of wagon running over could be heard here and there.
Right on the opposite of Sweet Smile Chamber was the famous stuffed bun in Wind City, the Wang’s.
The landlady was opening the lid of a basket of newly-cooked stuffed buns. The steam evaporated as the strong flavor of the meat-stuffed buns flew into her nose, although it was on the other side of the street.
She took a deep breath and enjoyed the strong meat flavor.
On should know, on most days when she failed to beg for food, she would take a deep breath of the newly-cooked steamed buns as her breakfast.
Rumbling~
She rubbed her rumbling stomach and then wore an enchanted smile.
Now that she was reborn in such a super-rich woman, she could have those meat-stuffed bun anytime anywhere to her heart’s content.
At this time, Xiaocui happened to finish her hairdo.
The shortest answer is doing. Ji Wujin, squeezing her gown tightly, got up her nerve to give the first order as the procuress after rebirth. “Well, Xiaocui, go buy two stuffed buns for me…”
She stared hard at Xiaocui who pursed her lips tightly and gave her an instant look. “Mama Jiao, you know…”
“…”
Why did she mean with those suddenly dropping tears? All I wanted was just some stuffed buns. What should I know? I know bullshit!
She asked while looking at Xiaocui in the mirror, “What should I know?”
Xiaocui looked away, “you know…”
“…” it never ends. What a one-for-all answer!
Ji Wujin stood up, face darkened, andlooked straight at the stuffed bun shop on the other side of the street. It was killing her not to eat those buns.
“Right there! The Wang’s! Do you see it? Go get two stuffed buns for me. One stuffed with pork fillings and one with beef filings. I only want those fresh ones in the steamer, not those already on tables for a while. And, watch out those beggars on your way back. Stay alert! They might rob you…”
Realizing the only sound in the room was her nagging, Ji Wujin looked back.
Xiaocui was cleaning towels with her head down. It seemed that she didn’t hear Ji Wujin at all.
“Mama Jiao, we need to hurry up. Just now Xiaohong told me that the kitchen already made steamed buns.”
“Steamed buns? But I…”
“Yes. We need to hurry before it’s too late.”
“But I want to eat…”
Finally Xiaocui cast her eyes at her again, but this time her eyes were even redder than before.
“Mama Jiao, stop joking me. Ok? We are really running out of time.”
Joking? Who is joking? I just want to eat some stuffed buns.
Sensing that Ji Wujing was about to say more, Xiaocui carried the basin and towel and walked outside in a rush.
“Mama Jiao, if you’ll excuse me…”
“Huh?” Ji Wujin hurriedly followed her, “Where are you going?”
“For breakfast. Otherwise we will be running out of the steamed buns…”
“If there is no steamed bun, we can eat stuffed buns…which is better. Hey! Stop running…”
She dashed out and ran after her.
How weird her maid was!
She may have some mental problems. That was why she was not easy to communicate with. Because she specifically told her that she wanted to eat stuffed buns, but instead she only wanted steamed buns. Fine! Steamed buns it is! The priority was to stuff her belly!
“Wait up!”
