Chapter 49 – A Mere Autograph
At the north gate of the university city, a limousine slowly drove into the campus along the main road.
The university, which was built ten years ago, was located in the north of the city. Several well-known universities moved some colleges here as well.
After years of development, the university has become a famous landmark in the capital. It has a vast area and ample supporting facilities around it, with more than 100,000 students living inside.
Looking at the familiar street scenes on both sides of the road, the man sitting in the back of the car showed a nostalgic smile.
“I didn’t expect to graduate after many years in a blink of an eye.”
“Yes, at that time, you came to attend many classes, and you always sat in the first row.
You always completed your homework. Later on, we searched your name on the list of students, but we never found yours. We then learned that you are not an enrolled student in our school!”
Beside the man sat an older man with gray hair. Although his hair was white, it was neatly combed with oil. A pair of gold-rimmed glasses stands on the bridge of his nose, making him look like a part of an older generation of intellectuals.
His clothes were clean and neat, but it didn’t belong to a famous brand. On his leg sat a brown leather briefcase. It looked ancient, but there was no damage. He was very fond of it.
“I would like to thank University President Zhang for his merciful efforts in not throwing me out.” Mu Xiulun gratefully thanked the older man.
“Well, you were not willing to give up!” The old man, called President Zhang, turned to him and said, “Xiulun, you are a good seedling for scientific research. Unfortunately … No, it’s not pity. Everyone has their own way forward. Your road led to the business industry. I saw you in the newspaper a few days ago. In this year’s ‘Top 100 Mining Groups’, your ranking rose several places higher than last year.”
Mu Xiulun nodded humbly.
The Mu family was engaged in the mining business. A few decades ago, the state began to liberalize mining permits and vigorously support private capital. It was at that time that his father and uncle became rich.
At first, they held an iron mine only, then it was followed by chromium ore, aluminum ore, and copper ore, which the country badly needed.
Mu Xiulun was the youngest child of their generation and an adopted son. When he graduated, all the essential positions in the family business were occupied by relatives, and his father only threw him a small and poorly managed branch.
Everyone thought he was on the verge of giving up, unable to run a failing small extensive company.
Only, they didn’t think that he was able to turn the direction the company was taking.
How could they expect that by virtue of his sensitive smell in business and the professionalism he developed through the years of attending the geological college, he decisively transformed the company to produce non-ferrous metals and rare earth metals?
At one stroke, a beautiful turn-over was fought.
With the gradual expansion of business, Mu Xiulun’s name was becoming more and more common in newspapers and news programs.
“President, I came back to see you this time so that we won’t talk about work.” Mu Xiulun took the initiative to change the subject.
President Zhang smiled and wrinkles at the corners of his eyes spread out.
“Okay, okay! By the way, all the experimental equipment that you donated before has arrived. Do you want to see them later? “
Mu Xiulun was just about to nod his head once more when his attention was suddenly drawn towards a crowd of students rushing by outside the car’s window.
The 18-year-old and 19-year-old freshmen were the most energetic, buzzing with friends and rushing towards a distant teaching building.
It was the weekend. Thus, there was no class to attend. The expressions on their faces told Mu Xiulun it was not class they intend to visit…But something they found exciting.
Mu Xiulun asked, “What are they doing?”
President Zhang, despite his age, was a teenager at heart. He squeezed his eyes like a naughty boy and said, “What else? They are after the star!”
“After the star? … But there was no film school at the university.” Mu Xiulun frowned.
Immediately, President Zhang explained to him. “Yesterday, the academic affairs office sent a notice that a female star will come here for a shoot. What’s the name …”
He thought for a while. “Oh yes, it’s Su Jin! Oh, my little grandson loved her so much that he pleaded me to ask for her autograph. He is in a more intimate relationship with her than with me!”
Mu Xiulun: “…”
He coughed and said, “If it’s just a signature, I can think of some way.”
For the sake of the former golden financial backer, Su Jin would surely not refuse his request, a mere autograph.
