54. Uncovering the Truth
“He doesn’t love me anymore.”
Although Su Ruoqing was reluctant to say this, she didn’t want to deceive herself anymore. Everything she saw had proved that Leng Yuhe no longer took a fancy to her.
Mingzhu was surprised. “How could it be? Leng Yuhe has always been good to you. Although I’ve never been in love with anyone, I can tell he loves you heart and soul.”
“Yes. Maybe he really loved me before.” Su Ruoqing began to recall their past, her growing dependence on him, and his increasing love for her…
At the thought of this, she could no longer hold back her emotions. She suddenly broke down in tears.
“It’s true. He doesn’t love me anymore. I saw him holding another woman.”
Mingzhu believed in Su Ruoqing. She must have seen him with another woman, but what she saw might not be the truth.
“Ruoqing, I believe you saw Leng Yuhe with another woman, but you can’t completely lose trust in him! You’ve been with him for a long time. As a bystander, I’ve witnessed your relationship get better and better.”
Mingzhu gently wiped away Su Ruoqing’s tears. She wanted her to judge her feelings towards Leng Yuhe in a more rational way.
“But for the sake of another woman, he even told me to fuck off!”
Su Ruoqing closed her eyes. It seemed she could still see his cold expression and hear his heartless words that day.
“I went so far to find him despite the danger, but what did he do? He betrayed and abandoned me. I should have thought of it. How could he change himself for such an insignificant woman like me?”
Su Ruoqing did not want to be so anguished. In the past ten years, except for her parents’ deaths, she had never been so painful.
Su Ruoqing didn’t love to cry, but she cried many times because of Leng Yuhe. Sometimes she was deeply moved by him, but sometimes he brought her fear or despair.
Hearing her words, Mingzhu didn’t know what to say to comfort her. “Then what are you planning to do next?” she asked.
Hearing this question, Su Ruoqing slowly calmed down.
“I want to leave.”
She looked around the house, which was full of her memories with Leng Yuhe. She once enjoyed every moment she spent with him, but now she felt so desperate and fearful.
As long as she stayed in this house, she would always be tortured by those memories. If Leng Yuhe had no feelings for her, she would rather leave him forever.
Seeing Su Ruoqing’s painful look, Mingzhu felt sorry for her. “But where are you going after leaving here? Are you willing to part with him?”
Su Ruoqing shook her head and said, “Mingzhu, sometimes we love someone because of the the happy memories, but my feelings towards him withered away because of his betrayal. Now I just want to break free from everything. Maybe this is the only way to let my pain disappear.”
On the surface, Su Ruoqing looked calm, but she was gripped by distress. She still loved Leng Yuhe. Even if she had been hurt and betrayed, she couldn’t forget the countless joy and sorrow he gave her.
Seeing Su Ruoqing pretend to be tough, Mingzhu made up her mind to find Leng Yuhe to figure out the truth.
“Ruoqing, how about this? Anyway, General Leng is not at home now. Just sleep well and keep your spirits up. After you wake up, I’ll take you away. Then we’ll find a house to live together.”
Mingzhu didn’t make a false promise. If there was really a misunderstanding between them, then she wanted to help Ruoqing get happy again. If Leng Yuhe cheated on Ruoqing, she would take Ruoqing away and find a beautiful place to let her get over the miserable breakup.
Su Ruoqing obediently lay down, and Mingzhu comforted her for a while. After seeing Ruoqing breathe smoothly, she then left to look for Leng Yuhe.
At this time, Leng Yuhe was rushing home, and he met Mingzhu at the gate of his mansion.
Seeing Leng Yuhe, Mingzhu quickly greeted him, wanting to stop him. However, since Leng Yuhe was in such a hurry to see Ruoqing, he ignored her.
“General, please wait a minute. Leng Yuhe!”
Hearing her shout, Leng Yuhe finally stopped. Since Mingzhu was Ruoqing’s good friend, he decided to spare some time to hear what she wanted to say.
“I don’t have spare time. I hope you really have something important to tell me, because I have to see Ruoqing as quickly as possible.”
“What I want to tell you is about her.”
After hearing this, Leng Yuhe turned to look at Mingzhu with a serious expression.
“Is there anything wrong with Ruoqing?”
“She just fell asleep. If you agree, I want to find a quiet place to have a talk with you. This matter is very important to Ruoqing.”
Leng Yuhe thought for a moment before saying, “OK. But I’ll first take a look at her. You can get on my car and my driver will take you to a place. I’ll be there later.”
With that, he strode into the mansion and gently pushed open the bedroom door. The balcony window was still open, and the breeze blew the thin gauze curtain, making it float on the bed.
Lying in the bed, Su Ruoqing had indeed fallen asleep. Leng Yuhe gently walked over to close the window in case she would catch a cold. Watching the girl’s sleeping face, he felt deeply sorry for her.
She had lost a lot of weight, and her chin was thinner. Besides, her face looked deathly pale. Was it because of her injured feet? Or she might feel sad that he didn’t trust her…
After looking at her for a long time, Leng Yuhe left reluctantly.
“Sir, where are you taking me?” Sitting in Leng Yuhe’s car, Mingzhu wondered where they were going.
“General Leng likes to go to the same cafe every time he has a talk with others. Miss Ming, don’t worry. We’ll be there soon.”
After listening to the driver’s words, Mingzhu was relieved. After she waited in the cafe for half an hour, Leng Yuhe finally arrived.
“The clerk here said you drink black coffee every time, so I ordered one for you.”
Leng Yuhe looked at the coffee and the girl sitting opposite him. “What happened to Ruoqing? Please be frank with me. I have no interest in other things.”
“Since you said so, then I’ll go straight to the point. Have you ever betrayed Ruoqing?” Although Mingzhu was a little afraid of Leng Yuhe, she could only try to calm down for the sake of Ruoqing.
After Leng Yuhe heard this, his face turned as black as thunder. “What are you talking about? I am not here to listen to your nonsense.” With that, he wanted to leave.
“Ruoqing told me this herself. Do you still want to leave?” There was no one else in the cafe, so Mingzhu raised her voice. Sure enough, Leng Yuhe stopped and sat down again.
“You should know what will happen if you dare to lie to me.”
“General, you don’t need to scare me. What I said is true. Ruoqing told me personally.”
Looking at her calm appearance and thinking of the fact that Ruoqing and Mingzhu were close friends, he gradually believed in her. “What did Ruoqing say? Why did she think I betrayed her?”
“Ruoqing saw you with another woman. And you should know it better than me.”
Leng Yuhe was confused. “How is that possible?”
Mingzhu just remained silent. She wanted to give him some time to recall what had happened.
“Did Ruoqing say when she saw it? Did she tell you who that woman was?”
“Of course she saw the scene when she went to look for you. As for that woman’s identity, she didn’t tell me. Maybe she didn’t know either. By the way, you must know her identity.”
Leng Yuhe didn’t notice Mingzhu’s sarcastic tone, for he focused all his attention on her first sentence.
“When did she go to see me?”
Mingzhu put down her cup in confusion. “She was worried that you might have an accident on the battlefield, so she ran to the border alone to find you. How could you not know?”
At first, Mingzhu didn’t believe his words. However, after seeing Leng Yuhe’s solemn expression, she wavered in her judgement.
“Don’t you really know? Ruoqing just returned from the border for a few days, and her feet were injured at your place. Why didn’t you…”
Leng Yuhe already believed everything she said. To his surprise, he didn’t even know Ruoqing had come to him. What was worse, she saw him with another woman…
“I really don’t know. The whole thing is too strange. I want to go home and explain everything clearly to Ruoqing. I can’t let her further misunderstand me.”
“Wait a minute.” Mingzhu stopped Leng Yuhe.
“To be honest, Ruoqing has deep misunderstandings towards you. I’m afraid you can’t change anything even if you explain to her.”
Leng Yuhe stopped and was overwhelmed by confusion. It was the first time for Mingzhu to see him become so uneasy, and she was surer that he really liked Ruoqing.
“Since you’ve realized that something is strange, you should quickly find out the truth. I’ll put in a good word for you in front of Ruoqing.”
She decided to help Leng Yuhe restore his relationship with Ruoqing. “Ruoqing said she wanted to leave. I will take her to stay in the house next to Jingpo Lake for a few days, and then you can go find her after finding out the truth.”
Although Leng Yuhe was somewhat reluctant, he knew it was impossible to let Ruoqing forgive him for the time being. Since Mingzhu’s method was indeed good, he could only agree.
Seeing Leng Yuhe’s distressed look, Mingzhu said with a smile, “You can go now. Don’t worry about Ruoqing, for I will always be with her. I’ll give her back to you after you finish the investigation.”
After thinking for a while, Leng Yuhe finally made a decision.
“Please help me take good care of her.” He left the cafe and headed for the army.
“General, why are you here so late?”
Leng Yuhe said with a furious look, “Bring all the soldiers who followed me to the border here. I want to see everyone in half an hour.”
“But… General, some of them were injured seriously and they were in the hospital now…”
“No matter what, you must bring everyone here!” Leng Yuhe was a little anxious, for he was so eager to find out what had happened.
Half an hour later, everyone gathered in front of Leng Yuhe, and even the wounded were sent here on stretchers.
“General, everyone is here now.”
In front of all the soldiers, Leng Yuhe said with a grim look, “I came today to figure out something.”
He continued, “When we were resting in the suburban villa, did something happen that I didn’t know?”
After saying that, Leng Yuhe remained silent and glanced at the crowd.
After a few minutes, some people put on a nervous look. Without questioning those people, Leng Yuhe kept walking back and forth beside them.
Finally, one soldier could no longer bear the tense atmosphere, and he suddenly took a step forward.
