Chapter 19 Compensation
Carrying suitcase in front of the car, Lin Qing checked the time and it was 20 minutes later than the deadline set by Mu Li.
The headlights were off, and thus Lin Qing could not see his expression through the window.
The streetlamps were under maintenance recently and none of the them nearby were on.
It was all dark around. She thought Mu Li may not notice her in the darkness. She put her suitcase aside, walked to the driver’s door and knocked on the window.
“Mu Li.”
Her voice was loud enough for him to hear from inside the car.
Mu Li did hear her. Actually, he had seen her all the way since she pulled her suitcase down.
The window descended slowly and stopped halfway.
Lin Qing bent a little and had eye contact with him directly.
“I can’t carry the luggage. Would you please give me a hand?”
Lin Qing asked for his favor tentatively.
In the past, as a gentleman, Mu Li would offer help before she asked.
But this time he felt upset by seeing her face. She kept a poker face even when asking for help.
“How much time did I give you?”
Mu Li finally opened his mouth and asked.
“Ten minutes.”
Lin Qing answered.
A question formed in her heart. Was he angry with her procrastination?
“How much time did you spend?”
He further inquired.
“Almost half an hour.”
Lin Qing answered like a pupil. She wasn’t aware of anything improper at all.
Those acquainted with Mu Li knew that he was always punctual to his time.
Lin Qing didn’t know it and she was not that kind of person as well.
“As a good wife, you should not keep your husband waiting.”
Actually he was not angry anymore when seeing her peaceful eyes.
Lin Qing seemed confused, “But you waited and did not leave.”
Mu Li failed to respond to such irrational answer. Maybe there was something different in her brain structure.
Lin Qing couldn’t perceive any change of his expression and therefore thought he was still angry. “Well, since I’ve kept you waiting so long, I’d like to make a compensation to you.”
“Compensation?”
This word almost made him misunderstand Lin Qing, provided he knew little about her personality.
“I’m good at some specialty dishes, although not as good as professional chef. May I cook you a steamed bass later?”
Lin Qing was quite confident at her cooking skill.
Sure enough, Lin Qing couldn’t think of other compensation as he expected.
When Mu Li parked the car in the underground parking lot, Lin Qing seemed asleep on the passenger seat. She looked pretty with her eyes closed and her long hair hanging down beside her face.
Mu Li thought she was asleep and smiled tenderly at her face.
At this time, his cell phone rang and the buzz interrupted his thoughts.
To his surprise, it was Chen Qudong.
It seemed that Chen Qudong had heard of their marriage. He didn’t expect he would call him so soon.
“Hello.”
Mu Li answered the phone.
The person on the other end said something, and Mu Li answered, “Thank you for your invitation. My wife and I will come to dinner for sure.”
He spoke with a good sense of propriety and hung up after some small talks.
Lin Qing was actually awake. She closed her eyes for a rest on the way.
When the car stopped, she felt his fervent sight and missed the chance to open her eyes because of the call.
She heard Mu Li’s words clearly but had no clue of the caller or the details of their conversation.
Her heartbeat stopped for a second when she heard him saying ‘my wife and I’, for she was not used to this identity yet.
“Don’t pretend to be asleep. Come home with me.”
Mu Li’s charming voice arose just beside her ear when she was at a trance.
Well, he already knew it.
Lin Qing opened her eyes, slightly embarrassed, and got off the car rapidly. She didn’t raise her head all the way home.
Mu Li was about to input the password to open the door, but then stopped to look at Lin Qing, who was standing two paces behind.
“What’s up?”
He raised his eyebrows, which made Lin Qing miss a heartbeat again.
“I thought it over. I don’t want your specialty dish as a compensation.”
Mu Li looked serious.
Lin Qing was surprised at his generosity, but then heard his remaining words—
“A kiss instead would be fine.”
Lin Qing almost fell to the ground.
The door was opened. He added when stepping into the house, “A French kiss.”
