Chapter 13 The Result Was Certain
Mu Li had been calm since he was a boy. He reacted so naturally as if nothing had happened, and he told Mrs. Lin he would pick her up in the afternoon to meet his parents at the hotel.
Then Mrs. Lin rested assured and took off with Chen Qudong, leaving Lin Qing here.
Chen Qudong glanced at Mu Li before he left. Mu Li smiled at him politely yet coldly. “You take care.”
Chen Qudong nodded and closed the door for Mu Li.
Only then did Lin Qing realize that she was alone with Mu Li in the house. Well, didn’t her mother come for her? Why didn’t she take her back?
Mu Li turned back and saw Lin Qing standing there blankly.
He stopped there and looked at her from a distance. With just one look, he could tell what she was thinking.
Yes, he was thinking she was exactly the kind of woman he wanted to marry—a simple woman.
Mu Li walked over and sat down on the sofa. “Lin Qing, do you have any questions for me?”
Lin Qing looked at Mu Li, perplexed. “What questions?”
“Now, I am the one who is most related to you except your parents,” Mu Li said. “But how much do you know about me?”
Lin Qing thought for a long time, and managed to say something. “I know your name.”
“… you,” Mu Li pondered for a moment and continued, “are not curious about my profession or anything else?”
“Is there anything special about your profession?” Lin Qing did not answer, but turned the question back to him.
Mu Li paused for a second and said, “Nothing special.”
“Oh.” Lin Qing’s little face was very calm. “Then why should I be curious?”
When she finished those words, she turned round and went back to the room. Mu Li saw she fell into bed again and closed her eyes with the quilt in her arms.
Mu Li could do nothing but sit on the sofa in depression.
Lin Qing took Mu Li’s home as her own, sleeping a whole day.
Mu Li did his business in the study. At noon he went to the room to check on Lin Qing. Seeing her still asleep, he did not disturb her.
At 4 p.m., Mu Li received a phone call from his mother, saying that she would meet Lin Qing’s parents at Junhao Hotel.
He thought time was up, so he went into the room to wake Lin Qing up.
Lin Qing, however, still in a deep sleep with the quilt in her arms, couldn’t wake up at all.
But this time, Lin Qing’s position was… a lot wilder.
Holding the quilt, she was lying on her side, half of her cheeks buried deep in the pillow like a wayward child. Her long black hair hung down covering her cheeks, making her skin look whiter and more delicate.
Mu Li bent down and put aside the black hair on her face. “Lin Qing.”
“…” Lin Qing didn’t respond.
Mu Li patted her on the shoulder and spoke a little louder, “Lin Qing.”
This time, Lin Qing finally responded. She slowly opened her eyes, and the first one she saw was Mu Li.
She was stunned for just one second, as if she could not recognize Mu Li.
Soon, however, she remembered and realized what had happened today.
But she didn’t ask Mu Li why he was in her room. She just looked at him quietly and said, “I’m still sleepy.”
She had just awakened, her eyes fogged and her voice slightly hoarse, making her sound pleading.
Mu Li could no longer utter an order, and his voice softened considerably. “It’s late in the afternoon. We need to go to the hotel. Shall we sleep when we are back, okay?”
Mu Li might not be able to see it himself, but Lin Qing saw the subtle softness in his cold, deep eyes.
Driven by unknown forces, Lin Qing nodded obediently and lifted the quilt to sit up.
Mu Li looked at her, and saw something he should not see. A hint of embarrassment flashed in his eyes. Then he quickly looked away.
Lin Qing wondered why Mu Li’s face suddenly changed, and after a long time she figured it out. She looked down at her body, and hurriedly cinched her bathrobe.
She was still wearing Mu Li’s bathrobe, which was loose enough, and after she woke up, the collar was more open. One side of her shoulder, neck, collarbone and even the part below it was largely bare.
Lin Qing was so embarrassed, and with red cheeks, she jumped out of bed. “I will take a shower!”
