Chapter 27: Orb Of Truth

“Are you saying that the real Linley Bart has been replaced?” Atais understood what Wilson meant. “That’s impossible. Under the surveillance of the crystal ball, the sorcery academy hadn’t discovered anything unusual. Although Linley Bart had changed greatly, it’s impossible for him to become another person without being discovered.”
“With magic, anything is possible,” Wilson said. “Please do not forget that just a month ago, Linley Bart was a piece of trash who couldn’t even use basic magic spells. Yet, out of nowhere, he had instantly become a genius sorcerer. No matter how you think about it, this isn’t normal!”
“This…”
“What Wilson said is not completely unreasonable.” The principal pondered for a moment. “Take the Orb Of Truth and let’s have a look.”
“Yes!” After a teacher heard the principal’s order, he then went to a room to take out a purple crystal ball.
This crystal ball was called the “Orb Of Truth”.
This was an orb that could reflect one’s true nature. Anyone who was observed by this crystal ball would reveal his true appearance.
The principal gently stroked the orb and Linley’s figure appeared within it…
“Is this person Linley Bart?” The principal asked the Orb Of Truth.
The Orb Of Truth let out a purple glow in response.
The purple glow from the Orb Of Truth meant that what was asked was the truth, which meant that Linley Bart was the real Linley Bart.
“He’s real,” the principal said grimly.
“How is this possible… My guess can’t be wrong…” Wilson gaped.
He had been searching for information regarding Linley Bart the entire time and had gradually come to the conclusion that the current Linley was definitely not the same as the one in the past.
However, the Orb Of Truth would never lie. What it revealed meant that Linley was real. No one could doubt the authenticity of the Orb Of Truth because it represented only the truth.
Wilson did not dare to question the principal’s magic power.
The principal let out a sigh of relief. He had been hesitant when he had first heard what Wilson had suggested.
Although the academy had its own geniuses, the numbers were not that big of a deal when compared across the entire continent. Across the continent, as long as one had a good potential to become a sorcerer, one would be classified as a genius.
And in a place where geniuses gathered, if everyone was a genius, then there would also be ordinary geniuses as well as the geniuses amongst geniuses.
As the Sacred Dragon Sorcery Academy was no longer the only sorcery academy on the continent, students had more choices. The other academies had also put more effort into recruiting geniuses and offered better treatment. They even directly poached students from the Sacred Dragon Sorcery Academy.
The scholarship they gave was ridiculously high. The benefits thus attracted a large number of people to other magic academies.
The Sacred Dragon Sorcery Academy did not have that much of an advantage. This also resulted in the Sacred Dragon Sorcery Academy not having a good ranking in the recent Five Great Sorcery Academy Competition.
If their ranking was not good, fewer people would come to the Sacred Dragon Sorcery Academy which would then result in poorer quality students.
Such a vicious cycle made the principal extremely anxious. He was determined to revive the heydays of the academy but he also suffered from the lack of a true sorcery genius.
Becoming a good sorcerer was highly dependent on one’s talents. To some people, it was as simple as using their feet to walk. However, to those without talent, they were not able to cast magic spells no matter how hard they were taught.
This year, the academy administration was more diligent in sourcing for highly talented students compared to the previous years. Hence, they even managed to snatch some students from other academies.
The principal was determined to win this year’s competition among the five academies. Even if his academy was not the champion, he wanted to get at least a good ranking.
He did not want the reputation of the Sacred Dragon Magic Academy to be tarnished by him.
Perhaps it was because this was his last year as the principal of the magic academy, he wanted to end it on a good note and do something for the academy.
He wanted to nurture a genius, a true genius.
Before the competition began, the principal had already heard of Linley Bart’s reputation. He was known as a hedonistic son of a wealthy family. If it hadn’t been for his father’s request, given his talent, he wouldn’t even have had the chance to join this academy.
No one had expected that this hedonistic son of a wealthy family would ever become a sorcerer. He had allowed him to enter the academy just to return a favor.
But now, Linley Bart’s power had far surpassed his expectations.
This was perhaps the rare opportunity that the principal had been waiting for.
Initially, he had been worried by the suggestion that Linley Bart was in fact someone else in disguise. If that was the case, it would be too embarrassing for the Sacred Dragon Institute.
Not only would he have lost a genius sorcerer, but he would also become the laughing stock of other sorcerers.
But Linley Bart’s identity had been proven through the test of the Orb Of Truth.
This had also finally made Wilson make a fool of himself and shut his mouth.
“How rare. A true genius has indeed appeared in our Sacred Dragon Sorcery Academy!” The principal laughed heartily. “No one has any more doubts, right?”
The other teachers didn’t dare to speak. This sentence was mainly meant for Wilson. After being slapped in the face, he naturally retreated to the side.
However, he still said bashfully, “Although Linley Bart is real, he didn’t win the duel. Didn’t he still lose to Alice?”
“Alice’s condition might not be good…” the vice-principal said.
“Why is it so? She is after all a princess of a kingdom. Could anything happen to her?” The principal asked with a frown.
Although Linley Bart’s identity had been resolved, Alice was still a problem.
The reason was that she had used a forbidden spell.
Ordinary students might not be able to tell, but teachers who had reached the Magister level could tell that Alice’s blade was in fact a forbidden spell!
This was because, in the Sacred Dragon Sorcery Academy, there were no lessons that taught one to become a close combat mage.
This was a very traditional sorcery academy and it only taught one to become an orthodox sorcerer.
Any other fighting styles would be considered taboo.
This was the case for close combat sorcerers. As they did not conform to the tradition of orthodox sorcerers, where one fought with their enemies using their wands instead of other forms of weapons, they were not recognized as proper sorcerers.
This was in fact against the rules of the academy.
Thus, this put the principal in a dilemma.
