Chapter 1079: My Precious Wife (5)
“Mr. An…” Xiaomi said gingerly. An Yibei nodded indifferently and said, “Sit.”
Xiaomi sat down sheepishly, then said in trepidation, “Mr. An, it’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have said all those things…”
Apologizing was the only choice she had now.
Otherwise, she would probably lose her job.
An Yibei smirked. “If you knew that already, why didn’t you just shut up?”
Xiaomi broke into a cold sweat. “I… I really didn’t mean it. I just couldn’t control my temper…”
“Is that so?”
Summoning up her courage, Xiaomi said, “You probably don’t know this, but Ai Bao isn’t as innocent as she looks. She has had many boyfriends before. I even heard that she had this celebrity ex-boyfriend. If she can hook up with a guy like that, she must have hooked up with all sorts of men! Mr. An, don’t let her fool you!”
Xiaomi thought herself a smarty-pants and hoped that by throwing mud at Ai Bao, An Yibei would spare her.
Little did she know that she had just dug her own grave.
As expected, An Yibei adjusted his glasses and the lenses glinted coldly. “We didn’t hire you to spread gossip in the firm. However complicated other people’s personal lives are, they’re none of your business! And it’s the same with my relationship with Ai Bao! Miss Su, go to HR now. Your contract is terminated!”
Xiaomi’s face was pale as a sheet as she asked with quivering lips, “Are… are you sacking me?”
“You’re welcome to write a resignation letter,” said An Yibei casually. He then fetched a plate of fruit and left.
Xiaomi sat there, shaken by the news. She couldn’t believe that she had lost her job just like that.
Was Mr. An… serious about Ai Bao?
–
On the top floor.
When Ai Bao finished copying the file, her phone buzzed once. Picking it up, she saw that it was a message from a number she didn’t recognize.
“Baobao, it was all my fault. Can I see you one last time? I’ve always loved you and you’ve always been the most important person to me. — Wu Hanxiao.”
She smiled sarcastically and was going to delete the message when a cold voice rang out behind her. “You still keep in touch with him?”
An Yibei jumped and dropped the phone. An Yibei caught it in time, glanced at the screen, then tossed it back to her.
“I didn’t… He reached out to me himself…” Ai Bao said awkwardly. She quickly blocked the number and deleted the message. Only then did the look on An Yibei’s face soften a little.
“Here, have some fruit.” An Yibei handed her the plate, which Ai Bao took before she pointed at the table and said, “There’s the file you asked me to copy.”
“Alright.” Actually, that file didn’t need copying at all, and had just been an excuse to send Ai Bao away.
Darting a look at him, Ai Bao saw that he wasn’t angry. Only then did she ask gingerly, “Well… why do you think he tried to contact me again?”
An Yibei gave her an inscrutable smile. “Why do you think?”
Ai Bao wrinkled her nose. “I asked you because I don’t know why…”
“Silly girl.” An Yibei rubbed her head. “Of course it’s because you look so gullible.”
Pffft —
Ai Bao looked hurt. “Why am I gullible?!”
An Yibei made no comment.
Sometimes, one needed to keep the answers to themselves.
“Do you want to improve your IQ?” An Yibei narrowed his eyes. Ai Bao took the bait immediately. “How?”
