Chapter 1960: Grandpa Is Here
Azure Guard had no counters to this shameless set up.
This wasn’t to say that Ruling Sword’s dual-healer composition meant they were invincible. To defeat Ruling Sword, they needed to have four DPS players who solely focused on the weaker healer. Alternatively, they could use the same set up and grind it out that way. The first team to make a mistake would be punished.
Ruling Sword was patient, while Azure Guard had to keep telling themselves to not rush.
In the end, someone still was too desperate, which led to Azure Guard’s demise.
Friendly matches were postponed, so after doing the post-match press conference and interviews, Lu Li and the rest flew back to Jiangnan City.
After fighting on the away-side, it was their turn to fight on home-ground, with a day of rest in between.
This day was of course used to grind the Mount Hyjal Instance Dungeon. They needed to clear Archimonde to receive the last First Clear.
Most of their time was spent continuously being wiped out. However, this didn’t affect their morale when facing off against Azure Guard. After all, they had won with such a landslide even as the away side.
Jiangnan’s biggest arena wasn’t actually that large, but it was a popular venue, so it was difficult to get the tickets.
A lot of people began to purchase tickets using alternate methods.
Water Fairy’s grandfather requested Lu Li to reserve some tickets for her family, as they wanted to watch the competition as well.
This was his time to show off his skills. If her grandfather wanted to watch the match, reserving even half the arena wouldn’t be a problem.
Lu Li reserved two hundred tickets and personally sent them over.
Uncle Fan brought his whole family and also invited many of his neighbours and friends. The two hundred tickets were nearly all used up.
“How come you wanted to watch this…eSport competition? You were never interested in this were you?” the wife asked her husband.
“Uncle Fan personally invited us, so how can I reject it?” the husband explained.
“Grandpa Fan…He’s already quite old, so why did he invite us to watch this? This isn’t that impressive or popular is it?”
The wife cared a lot about her social standings, and she didn’t understand why such an influential and notable character like Uncle Fan would attend something like this.
“Don’t ever say something like that again. It’s not popular? You don’t know anything about this. Do you know how influential the gaming industry is right now? The hundreds of millions that we have now is a drop in the ocean for these gaming companies. I thought to invest into a mega-club, but in the end when he asked me how much I was going to invest, I politely hurried him along.”
“What does this have to do with Grandpa Fan? Oh! That’s right. I heard that their little princess is managing some gaming business.”
“That’s not accurate. That little girl already has hundreds of times my net worth, and she’s only a bit over twenty years old.”
“Oh. I get it now. Is her club the one that’s competing today?”
“Surprisingly, that’s not it, but there are some connections there. I’ll tell you. The little princess has already chosen her partner.”
“What did you say?”
“Be a little quieter. It’s a guy from today’s match. Don’t go spreading it. I heard that the Fan family is quite happy with him.”
“Where is he from?”
“Some unknown family. I heard that he built his fame and fortune from the ground up. Now. he
manages two clubs. I even heard that the city secretary eats dinner with him quite often.
“Well, this was expected. Oh, that reminds me. Since the little princess found her prince, does her father, Mr. Shen, know?”
“Of course he knows. However, since Mr. Fan already nodded his head, how could he say otherwise?”
“Are they already engaged?”
“I heard that they will get engaged next month. Mr. Shen…Hehehe.”
“He did this to himself. There are no good men out there.”
“…”
“Ruling Sword already decided on their first player.
The first player to enter the arena from Ruling Sword would be Sakura Memories.
They chose her because they were going to lose the first round.
This was an unspoken rule. If the away side defeated the home side, then when the grounds were flipped, they would need to forfeit the first round.
This was courtesy.
Just as expected, Sakura Memories lost the first round. She was now a third-string player on the team. This was because competing wasn’t her main focus. Secondly, Buff Shamans did not fare well on the arena.
The second round was Fat Monkey versus Floral Paralysis. However, Fat Monkey lost.
This was a little awkward. Lu Li didn’t plan to lose this round. After the match, he was going to find a reason to punish this scumbag.
“Is it not going too well?” Mr. Fan turned to ask his granddaughter. He didn’t understand it well, but he at least knew a win and a loss.
“It’s not a big problem. Maybe he wanted to give some face to the opponents. Lu Li and his people in the day before had just defeated them in a complete landslide. It was utterly ruthless,” Water Fairy explained.
“Hey, it’s your boy!”
“Aiya! Grandpa, what are you saying?”
“Hahaha!”
Lu Li entered the arena and defeated Floral Paralysis in no time, since Fat Monkey had already eliminated most of his HP. Then, he had to face off against the Berserker from Azure Guard, Bingo Bro.
“Berserkers counter Thieves pretty well. They want to use the advantage of classes to beat Lu Li,” Water Fairy explained for her grandfather.
“Then is little Lu Li going to lose?”
“No. Even if it was me, I would be able to beat this Berserker too.”
“You’re quite confident, aren’t you?”
Everything that happened on the arena was just as Water Fairy had said. Even though it was a little more difficult and required more effort, Lu Li still managed to take the win with around 50% HP left.
If Bingo Bro was as good as Moonlight, then Lu Li might not have won.
Bingo Bro was effective when facing off against normal Thieves, but his opponent just had to be Lu Li.
The third competitor from Azure Guard was Magic Cry.
“He is a star player. He’s very good. I’ve fought him a few times and have both won and lost,” said Water Fairy.
“Little Lu Li isn’t that good either. How did you start liking him?”
“Hmph! I’m not talking to you anymore.”
“Okay, okay. Let’s see how little Lu Li defeats this Magic Cry.”
Lu Li was able to defeat Magic Cry. That wasn’t a question. However, he only had 50% HP left, and his skills had mostly been used up.
There was also a battle timer, so Lu Li couldn’t avoid Magic Cry for the entire duration.
Lu Li was once upon a time, a model Thief. One could say that he was the very example of what a Thief was. Now, he was going to prove his power once again.
Of course, this was also because Mr. Fan and his family was watching the match.
Under normal circumstances, he wouldn’t have tried so hard. After all, if the results were 3:2 or 2:3, it would still be a one point difference. As long as they won the team battle, the result would still be the same. Ruling Sword would still enter the next round.
However, Lu Li needed to win now.
