911 Chased Out
The two patriarchs stared at Cheng Yan, baffled by his firm rejection. They didn’t understand why he would refuse, since their suggestion was fairly reasonable.
Cheng Yan already had his hostages, so he shouldn’t bother playing cloak and dagger at this point.
Just what was going on? Why didn’t he want them to check on the girl, even when they had already reached this point?
There shouldn’t be any harm in checking.
Why was he so adamant in refusing them?
Old Master Xiao pondered it carefully, but he couldn’t come up with a plausible answer.
Likewise, Old Master Yu couldn’t figure it out, either.
Then, before they could plead their case further, Cheng Yan gestured toward the door. “Since you’ve already seen your grandchildren, please leave.”
He was chasing them away without a second thought!
He didn’t even seem to consider the fact that they were in the Xiao family’s territory. Instead, Cheng Yan bossed them around as if it was the most natural thing for him to do.
Old Master Xiao felt helpless.
This was his turf. He was supposed to be the one in charge here!
To think that a brat was chasing him out… If anyone got wind of this, he would be so embarrassed.
Was this his retribution?
When he had first met Cheng Yan and his posse, the young man had wanted to leave the valley and seek treatment outside, but Old Master Xiao had stopped them, insisting that they would only inconvenience themselves.
Now that Cheng Yan wanted to stay, he couldn’t help but feel offended.
He didn’t even know when he would see his granddaughter again. If anything were to happen to her, his son would be the first to take action.
Old Master Xiao felt a headache as he thought about the possibilities.
Needless to say, Old Master Yu was just as unwilling to leave. He stood his ground and huffed stubbornly.
Before coming here, he had made a promise to his family.
He swore that he would bring Yu Chen back this time.
But what the hell was this? Despite being the Yu Family Patriarch, all he could do was see Yu Chen and make sure that he was fine.
He did know that Cheng Yan and his friends meant no harm, and that his grandson was not in danger, but how could he leave just like that?
Old Master Yu thought of Yu Chen’s parents and was immediately annoyed. If only he was more skilled than his opponent. He only had himself to blame for being so weak that Cheng Yan was able to see through his moves.
And he had to bear the shame for that.
It was all he could do not to bury his face in his hands and sigh mournfully.
As for the doctor who had been waiting on standby, he took note of the elders’ expressions and shook his head ruefully. He packed up his medical kit and shuffled to the next room.
This was a separate treatment area littered with all kinds of medical equipment that had been extracted from the hospital in the valley. It was done according to Cheng Yan’s behest.
The doctor sighed and put his kit down on a nearby table.
He had expected the two elders to open the array in the girl’s body or, at the very least, acquire some ideas on how to proceed with the treatment. Sadly, his hopes were all in vain.
In the end, they still had to turn on him to treat the girl!
He fed all of Yao Tang’s physical data into the machine and turned his attention back to the research he had been conducting. He prayed that he would be able to figure it out soon.
The doctor told himself not to even think about relying on someone else, or he would be sorely disappointed yet again.
Outside, Yu Chen was slowly panicking. Cheng Yan was about to drive the elders away, but he and Xiao Bing were staying.
Yu Chen did not want to stay here any longer, he wanted to go home!
He was yearning for his massive bed and the hearty meals his mother cooked. Why did he have to remain as a captive?
Did he really have to stay?
Was he just going to watch his grandfather turn his back and disappear through the door, while he was left here with the irritating Xiao Bing and the hateful Lin Xin?
Anxious, Yu Chen drew closer to his fellow hostage. “Xiao Bing, I beg of you. Please convince the Young Master to agree to your family’s treatment. Otherwise, we would all be staying here tonight!”
He was legitimately scared now.
In just one day, he had suffered more abuse than he ever thought he could handle. It was nothing like he had ever experienced before, and one that he didn’t care to experience again.
Xiao Bing didn’t think she could persuade Cheng Yan to do anything, but she had to try, at least. “Why don’t we just let the Xiao family take a look?” she said to him. “The Xiao family is experienced in matters like this. Even if it really isn’t because of the formation, we need to make sure of it, or we would only get stuck at guesswork.”
She sounded rational and sincere, and her words made a lot of sense.
