Chapter 304 Extra Story of Lian Can— A Love for Eternity
[From Lian Can’s Perspective]
“Hello, I have an appointment with Dr. Han today.” I walked into the plastic surgery hospital and straight up to the front desk.
“Oh, yes, Ms. Lian. Please wait for a second. It’s your turn next.” It was undeniable that nurses in South Korea’s plastic surgery hospitals are all beautiful. Every one of them looks so gorgeous that you really can’t tell anything is wrong.
I took a seat on the sofa at the door of the consulting room, and picked up a Chinese entertainment magazine from the pile of books beside me, then I began to read it.
A story with the conspicuous title “Female star shows up naked on the street, seems to have offended the privileged” caught my eyes. I sneered at it, and mumbled a few words to my escort nearby.
At that moment, the door of the consulting room was opened, and a woman with short hair came out. I raised my head to have a look at her; instantly, I was attracted by her beautiful looks.
The short-haired woman looked a little pale. A couple of steps out of the consulting room, she immediately sat down on a sofa beside mine. She seemed somewhat uncomfortable.
“Ms. Lian, this way please.” The young nurse at the front desk walked in front of me. Her attitude was modest and polite.
I took another glance at that beautiful woman, before entering the consulting room.
“Ms. Lian, what kind of plastic surgery do you want?” Dr. Han was a cultured looking man, probably not much of a senior.
“I just want to have a double eyelid surgery, before I trying anything else.” I conveyed my thoughts directly to the physician. Honestly, I had butterflies about plastic surgery. On that tour in South Korea, I only meant to try getting double eyelids first. There had been many negative reports on accidents after plastic surgery, so I was still very worried about my plan.
“Hehe, is Ms. Lian a little unconvinced about our skills?” Dr. Han’s doubt was so straightforward that I truly felt a little embarrassed.
The image of the woman at the door just then flashed across my mind, and I couldn’t help asking, “Dr. Han, what kinds of plastic surgeries did the last lady have? She looks quite beautiful to me. Is all of that the result of her cosmetic procedures? But I can see no trace of the work on her face.”
“Oh, the lady just visited for a re-check exam. The surgery on her was very successful and she has recovered well from it. This is why you can’t detect any marks whatsoever,” Dr. Han said, while his eyes sparkled with conviction. Evidently he was extremely confident about his plastic surgery skills.
“Well then, which parts of her face are fake?” I looked at Dr. Han with curiosity.
“Sorry, Ms. Lian. Since it pertains a patient’s privacy, we can’t tell you.”
Thus I failed to get the answer I had wanted. Then Dr. Han gave me a simple checkup and warned me about something. After we made another appointment for the surgery time, I left.
After leaving the consulting room, I found that the woman was still sitting on the sofa as before. She looked more uncomfortable. A film of sweat was oozing out from her forehead.
The nurse seemed to notice something, and she walked before the woman to make a quiet inquiry, “Miss Jia, are you feeling okay?”
The woman shook her head, giving no answer.
Although I was very confused about the situation, I followed my escort to get out of the clinic and stood by the road while he waved for a taxi.
At that moment, the lady also walked out of the clinic building. With staggering steps, she headed for the other end of the street.
I couldn’t take my eyes away from the woman, because she was truly in a worrying condition. As I had expected, the woman didn’t walk far before she swung from side to side and collapsed on the ground.
I rushed to the woman and my escort also followed. We called the woman several times and she remained unconscious. Due to the sudden fall, her forehead was left with a bruise and some bloody scratches. The wounds looked a little shocking.
My escort and I took her to a hospital. After examination, the doctor told me that she was physically too weak and seriously malnourished, because she hadn’t had any food for a long time, and that she probably had slept poorly because she was exhausted.
I couldn’t help looking toward the female lying on the hospital bed. It was true that the woman was rather thin.
The woman was receiving an intravenous drip, and had fallen asleep for some time. Then she suddenly started to yell and scream fitfully. I couldn’t understand what she said clearly, but could tell that it was Chinese. That helped me confirm one thing, that she was most likely Chinese.
She seemed to be having a nightmare. After another strong exclamation, she suddenly woke up.
Seeing her fearful eyes, I involuntarily comforted her by saying, “Did you have a bad dream? That’s all right. Don’t be afraid. Dreams are not real.”
She turned around, and looked at me in bewilderment. I chuckled uncontrollably and started a self-introduction. “Don’t you remember me? We just met at the plastic surgery hospital a short time ago. My name is Lian Can. What is your name?”
When she heard “plastic surgery hospital”, she appeared very repulsed and wary. I was more amused by her look. “Are you worried that I might spread around news of your plastic surgery? That’s fine with me. I don’t have a big mouth. Plus Dr. Han didn’t tell me where you worked. I can’t tell by myself!”
The girl seemed to relax a bit, after hearing me say so.
“Alas, look how much you have done for just a good body. It was such a wrong way to lose weight like this. You just passed out due to starvation.” Since she not only had a plastic surgery, but also fainted on the street, I naturally assumed that she was on a diet.
It was not until much later that I learned that she had fainted on the street because she spent all her money on the plastic surgery and had no more money for food.
Since that day, I was acquainted with Jia Tianxin, a woman so beautiful that I couldn’t move my eyes away from her; a woman that was etched in my mind at first sight.
I took Tianxin back to China with me. She seemed a mystery, because she never talked about her past. But I couldn’t care less, because what I loved was her, the present one. “What does her past have to do with me?”
I didn’t know when Tianxin started falling in love with me. But I couldn’t accept that she hadn’t fallen in love with me from the very beginning. It was probably my sincerity that finally won her heart.
I was really loving her with my heart and soul. No matter what the price was, I would get whatever she wanted. I could do that because it was extremely rare for me to finally run into someone I liked, who was also willing to be with me.
Ever since I went to school, I had found that I did not like people of the other sex. All the people I liked were girls. At the beginning, I thought we were just close as friends. Then I realized that my affection for them was a little too much. Not only did I feel disgusted by that discovery at first, but also those girls that I took a fancy to thought I was disgusting. From then on, they, all of them, gradually distanced themselves from me and even told their classmates and the people around them about my perversion.
After that, more and more people considered me a freak. I received weird looks from everyone and was gossiped about by them. I was lucky to have a powerful dad, so they only dared to talk about me behind my back and not bully me openly.
Tianxin was the first one who I loved and didn’t feel repulsed by me, able to accept who I was. She was also the first one that could love me back as much as I did.
It was such a happy time, while being with Tianxin. I genuinely wished that I could stay with her happily like that forever.
Then one day, she told me that she was pregnant. She was very anxious that I might not get over her past and would hate her.
Honestly, what I would only care about was that we could not have our own child. At that moment, what came to my mind was merely the thought of how perfect it would have been if that child were ours. But I soon got over it. It was impossible for us to truly have a baby of our own, but since she could give birth to one, we would treat it as our own. That was practically the same thing.
Having thought through that, I felt extraordinarily happy instead. “Is it a chance given by heaven that we can have our own child?”
But good times seem never to last for long. Our happiness was terminated by that issue.
We once dreamed of how to raise our kid together, and even dreamed of going abroad to get married and starting a happy family life of three people.
But all those were based on my helping Tianxin get rid of that obstinate complex of hers, a thorn in her side. Or else we could not be really happy and Tianxin could not be really happy and laugh joyfully.
Therefore, we went ahead and did it, something that took away our future.
Someone asked me whether I regretted it. To be honest, yes and no. To say I regretted it, it was because Tianxin had left us since then, together with the future we’d dreamed together. And I did not regret it because that was what Tianxin insisted on doing. I wouldn’t pass judgment on that issue and say it was wrong or right, let alone say whether it was worthwhile or not. All I knew was that it had been what Tianxin wanted, and whatever she wanted I would do, notwithstanding the results…
Besides, who knows how it would turn out if we didn’t do it?! At least I saw her genuine heartfelt smile at that last moment. At least that was true.
And the child, he became my whole life after that, because Tianxin left him to me. I have treated him as the child of Tianxin and me, our own child, also giving him also the share of love that could have come from Tianxin.
But as I juggled everything, I always struggled to cope with the situation. I believed that if Tianxin were present, she would definitely do a better job than me. So I worked hard to learn and try, in hopes that I could be as good as Tianxin.
Dad suggested hiring a nanny to help me look after the kid. He said I should not ignore that I was still a maiden, a big girl. Whether I was a qualified babysitter was one thing, taking him with me outside and get gossiped about by others was another, being inconvenient for me.
I didn’t care about rumors at all. I had been a gossiping topic since I realized I liked girls. I had to bring him up on my own because he was Tianxin’s child.
That day, I took the child back to the hospital for a checkup. He was crying uncontrollably, and I had my hands full but only made the mess worse.
The milk bottle was smashed on the floor, the milk spilled everywhere. The diapers were stained by the spilled milk and could no longer be used. The baby bag was also a mess, and he just couldn’t stop crying in my arms. Not knowing what to do, I suddenly lost my patience and started crying with him.
As my eyes became teary, a pair of black leather shoes, perfectly polished, showed up in front of me. My eyes went up along the leather shoes and saw black suit pants, an azure shirt, and a white coat thrown on top. Although the white coat was not neatly buttoned up, it looked graceful. Probably that gracefulness was natural in that person.
Moving up, my eyes caught a handsome face that was somewhat familiar. Those eyes behind the glasses seemed to smile at me, making my heart involuntarily tense up a little.
“So, you don’t remember? But you’re still vivid in my memory. You’re still the same as before, not knowing what to do with him and then ending up crying as well, like a child.” His voice was deep and masculine, with a tinge of a modest smile. The pleasant sound easily upset my heartbeat.
He stooped and took the distressed kid from my arms. As he gently coaxed the kid, like before, he changed the diaper for him and tidied up everything.
I looked on in a daze, not knowing what to say. But in that moment, it seemed that I could touch Tianxin again, that woman who was my love for eternity.
