Chapter 53: Elder Brother, If One Day…
She could not help but admit that her sister looked entirely different from before. Yan Fei was someone highly skilled in acting, and she had built up the image of a weak and pitiful illegitimate daughter of Princess YongKang, though no matter how she tried, her burning hatred for Yan Luan could not be hidden entirely.
But now, her entire demeanor had changed into one of peace, it seems that being allowed to live her life here peacefully was doing her good.
“I thought you wouldn’t come.”
Yan Luan took a seat on a garden chair before refusing the tea served, before landing her gaze upon her sister, “What did you called me here for?” She asked while keeping a gentle smile plastered on her face.
Her rejection did not bother Yan Fei, as she took a seat nearby before staring at her little sister in admiration.
“Ah Luan, perhaps you might never understand how envious I had been of your life… We were born from the same father, but while you had an imperial princess for a mother, brothers that protect you and a beautiful face, I… I was merely surviving as the illegitimate daughter.”
Yan Luan raised her brows slightly, as her sister’s familiar words burnt through her mind. These were the exact words her sister had said upon her dying body, word-for-word… And if she MUST find a difference between both scenarios, it would be Yan Fei’s eyes.
They were plain and gentle, unlike her hate-filled eyes from their last life.
“But now that I think about it, I shouldn’t have blamed you for my misfortunes. I had tried to fight and change my destined life, but I finally know now that there was nothing I could do but to accept my fate.” Yan Fei sighed faintly, chuckling at her own idiocy before gently caressing her slightly bulged stomach, knowing that at this moment in her life, she no longer want anything other than her child.
“The good will be rewarded, while the evil punished… Such an accurate description for my current situation.” She murmured softly as she continued to caress her stomach, “I am very ill, and the doctor had announced that it’s highly that I could not survive long enough to give birth to my child, and even if I did, there’s no hope for me to live… Ah Luan, I admit that I’ve been a very bad person, but please, I really hope you can find it in yourself forgive this dying woman, I really need your help.”
Realizing that, for the first time in her life, her sister did not seem to be lying, Yan Luan began observing her sister sincerely, finally noticing that though Yan Fei seemed to be in peace, her face was too pale, and the hand which was caressing her slightly bulged stomach was as somewhat boney.
“Help you?” She asked in surprise, she had expected Yan Fei to weep in hatred, or perhaps to beg for forgiveness, but to think that it had come to this.
It was at this moment that Yan Fei left her seat and prostrated on the ground, “Please, my sister, when I die, please never allow anyone to snatch my child away, I would not mind if you send him off into a peasant’s house, I beg of you.”
“Perhaps you should tell me who the father is.” Yan Luan murmured softly, spinning the hot teacup in her hand as she raised an eyebrow at the prostrating Yan Fei.
There’s not many people in the world who could scare her so much, as her child had been granted permission to live from Princess YongKang herself.
Perhaps not expecting her sister to realize the actual reason behind her fear, Yan Fei realize she could not contain her tears anymore, “Ah Luan, you’re the only one I could ask, this child…” She sobbed desperately, “I had escaped from that place, but that person would never allow me to go free, he would surely come back for the child. Please!”
Her fear was obvious from the tremble in her voice, while Yan Luan pursed her lips asking her question once more, “Who exactly is he?”
After a long hesitation, Yan Fei finally managed to calm her trembling hands before answering her sister’s question, “…He is the Han Wang from the Saimo Banner.”
Yan Fei’s words sent her into a pause, she had, in fact, heard of this Han Wang. There were currently not less than ten banners in the country of Bei Jiang, and the Saimo Banner were one of the strongest banner to exist in the north. She had heard rumors that the current king had once gotten drunk at a party here and claimed that if Han Wang wasn’t removed, the entire north would never gain the peace and steady life they wanted.
And she could not, for the love of her life, figure out how Yan Fei would come into contact with such an infamous man.
But still, that would be a story for another day.
“Ah Luan, let me tell you, not even father knows about this. This child is very important to me, and if anyone is to ever find out about his roots, he would never be allowed to live! But still, I’m even more against having him taken back into that savage place, please, you’re the only one I have!”
Yan Luan’s silence fueled her insecurity, but she would not give up hope, as she knew very well that this was her last chance.
Finally, after what felt like forever, Yan Luan spoke, “Rest assured, no matter who the father is, he IS a child of our House, and we would never allow a child of our blood to be taken away. Rest well, and do not worry.”
Her words sent another wave of tears through Yan Fei’s eyes, but this time, her eyes were bright and filled with hope!
She had immediately reported the entire incident to Yan Jing when she arrived home, and as soon as she mentioned Han Wang, his brows were raised slightly in interest, before he set down his brush to pull her into a big hug.
“Don’t ever go there anymore, I’ll come up with a plan for this issue.” He said gently before landing a light peck on her forehead.
He wasn’t someone who forgives easily, especially when the target in question had tried to frame and hurt his adorable little sister many times.
Yan Luan nodded like a well-behaved little child as she laid her head against his strong chest, boldly listening to his constant heartbeat.
Suddenly, a slight grin flashed through her face as she reached upward to peck him on his lips, before trailing her lipstick stain down his jaw and along his neck.
His eyes were filled with nothing but tenderness for her as he pinched her softly on the tip of her nose, “Ah Luan is getting more and more mischievous lately, to think that my little sister would try to seduce me in broad daylight.” He chuckled softly as he nuzzled her gently against her cheeks.
Yan Jing’s self control was definitely on a different level as compared to Yan Dao, because even now, there was not a speck of lust on his handsome gentle face.
Such a man is no doubt the poison to every woman’s heart.
She wrapped her slender arms around his strong ones, before slowly running her fingers through his callous-filled ones as he observed them slowly, these were the hands of someone well-trained with weapons.
And these hands, might one day hold the power of life and death over the entire continent……
“Elder brother, what are your thoughts on being the emperor?”
Yan Jing gazed down at the cheeky young lady within his arms, before thinking through her question thoroughly, “Emperor? It is but a mere position that looks grand, but is actually an unnecessary burden.” He answered truthfully, as that was indeed his sincere thoughts.
He had answered nonchalantly, as if being an emperor was but an annoying issue for him.
This was the singular proof that not all man sought to hold the world in their hands and to have their beds filled with different beauties every night.
Yan Luan gaped at her elder brother in shock, as she had not expected him to answer in such a way, but there was no lie within his deep eyes.
“Elder brother, if one day…” you could be the emperor, what would you do?
Her words were interrupted as he placed an index finger over her lush lips, his eyes were so focused on her that she could see her reflection clearly within.
He had stopped her not because he did not wish to answer, but because he knew what she wanted to ask.
“Ah Luan, no power or authority in this world would attract me like you did, and brother is contented with my life as long as Ah Luan is by my side.”
He was a child born to an imperial princess, and truth be told, he HAD considered his options as he prepared for the worst case scenarios, but he hated it all. He hated the politics, and he hated the mask everyone wore.
And if he was given the option to choose, he would rather spend another day lazing around and doing nothing with his little sister. Yes, nothing else could satisfy him like being with her did, no power nor authority in the world could ever compare to her place within his heart.
