Chapter 474 Come to See the Laughing Stock
What Xia Yu said made some sense indeed. “What if I try my best to be with him seriously from now on?”
“If you express your sincerity to move him instead of threatening with this matter, he may give you a chance, but I’m not sure. But if you really threaten him with this, I am sure that he will never compromise.” Xia Yu said in an affirmative tone.
“Xia Yu, I’m offering you a chance now. If you put on airs, you’ll regret.” Bai Hong said while playing with her ring in her hand.
“Bai Hong, it doesn’t matter to you whether we will regret or not. What really matters is your happiness.” Xia Yu said in a low voice.
“In this case, forget my words.” Bai Hong got angry suddenly and pushed Xia Yu out at once. “You get out. I don’t want to see you here.”
Bai Hong pushed her so forcefully. And they both did not expect that there was someone outside the door. So, Xia Yu was pushed out and directly ran into someone who was standing outside the door.
“Honghong, what are you doing?” Seeing her daughter vent her anger on Xia Yu so rudely, Mrs. Bai felt annoyed.
“You are all bad people. No one wants to help me.” Bai Hong turned a deaf ear to her mother’s chatter and then shut the door with a bang.
“Miss Xia, I’m so sorry. Honghong has a bad temper.” Mrs. Bai apologized with embarrassment.
“Never mind. Miss Bai is under great pressure. I guess she will get it over soon.” Though Xia Yu knew Bai Hong’s feelings, she decided not to meddle in this. After all, this was Bai Family’s affair.
Just at this moment, Ruyi Tower’s manager came over and told Xia Yu that Director Wu wanted her to come over. So, she took the opportunity to leave. After she finished the conversation with Director Wu and came out, she heard someone talking about the engagement ceremony between Jiang Family and Bai Family.
“It is said that Miss Bai always dislikes Young Master Jiang. She was forced to date him by her parents.”
“It seems like it. Because they want to check and balance Young Master Yan from Shen Group by uniting with each other.”
“No wonder Xia Yu spared all her efforts to sabotage the engagement ceremony. Now she made it. Bai Hong announced on the spot that the engagement was canceled.”
“It is said that Mrs. Bai fainted on the spot because of anger.”
…
She had been absent only for a little while, and such a big thing had happened? Xia Yu hurriedly took out her phone to check and was shocked by it when seeing this. This news spread rapidly in only two hours, and more and more clues had been disclosed all like a ball of string, exposing many related people and things. They were like a jar of wine buried underground, which was stinking and dirty. Originally, it was thought that everything would be fine once they were buried in earth. However, the news was exposed now, and everything had become a dirty and ugly fact. When the wine jar was smashed, things inside were strewn all over the floor and exposed in public.
It was also referred to Shen Mo’s engagement to Zeng Mina, Shen Yan’s hiding Zeng Mina, Shen Mo’s sabotaging the engagement between Shen Yan and Xia Yu later, Bai Hong’s negotiating with Xia Yu for one condition of asking her to persuade Zhang Peng to change his views, and so on.
Xia Yu, holding the phone, could hardly stand steady. How could it be? Why did it happen suddenly? She felt dizzy and managed to get it over by holding the table corner to back up her body. She dialed the manager’s number with her trembling fingers.
The call was received by the manager after a long while, still with the background noise.
Xia Yu closed her eyes and asked, “How’s it going on now over there?”
“You mean the engagement ceremony? It is in a mess. All the journalists block the gate and wait to interview, but no one has appeared to explain till now. The engagement ceremony has been canceled temporarily. Mrs. Bai fainted inside because she could not bear it and has been sent to the hospital. Other guests all have been informed to leave.”
“How’s Bai Hong?”
“I didn’t see her. Since she announced the cancellation of the engagement, she has disappeared. But I think she must be somewhere in the hall because the gate is blocked by people and she can hardly get out.”
Xia Yu couldn’t imagine what kind of situation Bai Hong was in now. She hung up and got out. Then she grabbed her car key and dashed out.
But her car couldn’t move when she reached the outside of Ruyi Tower. The roads around were blocked totally.
Since the engagement ceremony between Bai Family and Jiang Family was very grand, various guests and media friends were invited. Additionally, many celebrities were present. Therefore, apart from some working staff on the scene, there were many fans coming to look on. Besides, this accident made the scene more crowded, so the roads around Ruyi Tower were blocked temporarily with some brigades of traffic police in charge of the spot.
Seeing that her car couldn’t get through in a short period, Xia Yu had to get off and walk. Fearing of being recognized by others, she wrapped her face with a scarf. She almost jogged to the gate of Ruyi Tower all the way and found that there were really many people gathering there, so she sneaked in through a side door.
After she came in, she found that there was a very different situation inside from outside. There was a lot of noise outside, while it was very cold and cheerless inside because all the guests were dismissed mostly. All the media and journalists were put on the sidelines. Only several security guards and working staff remained in the large hall. Those flowers, gauze curtains, goblets as well as candlesticks which were piled on the stage, and the champagne which was half-empty remained there. Everything was still as grand and fancy as before, with the sweet video of the couple played on the screen repeatedly.
One could imagine what was happening there a few hours ago. Many people in fancy clothes were gathering here, and the young couple held the ceremony under the blessing of guests and the media. But now all came to an end.
Sometimes, one’s destiny could be changed totally just for a moment.
Xia Yu was at a loss, standing in front of the screen. After a long while, she took out her phone to dial a number.
“I’m on the scene. Where are you?”
In the corridor, the northernmost room on the second floor was used as a temporary lounge for the couple during the ceremony. Xia Yu whose steps were swift and quick went up the stairs, heading for the room. As she approached the corridor, a figure suddenly appeared beside her.
“Why are you here?”
Xia Yu turned around, only to find Jiang Tao standing at the corner and staring at her coldly. She could not care about anything else at all now, so she kept silent and continued to walk down the corridor. However, after she took only a few steps, Jiang Tao caught up with her with strides and grabbed her arm suddenly.
“What are you doing?” Xia Yu was annoyed.
Jiang Tao also looked gloomy. “Come to see her?”
“It’s none of your business. Let go of me!” She got rid of his hand heavily with force and kept going on quickly. Very soon, she got to the northernmost lounge. She stopped for a while in front of the closed door.
Jiang Tao just watched not far away. She stood in the doorway and inhaled deeply twice. Then she pushed the door open and walked in.
The lounge was very large and two or three hundred square meters at least, with new carpets inside. The dangling lights in two rows overhead illuminated the whole room brightly.
Many characters of “happiness” were hung on the wall. Some equipment and unopened red wine bottles were piled on the floor. There should be a separate makeup area inside, where there was a row of hangers with clothes. On the wall, there were wooden framed mirrors with a set of dressing table and chair in the front. Other than those things, there was no sound. The whole lounge was scarily quiet, but Xia Yu noticed that a figure was obviously sitting on the chair in front of the mirror.
She took a deep breath and walked over with her fingers twisted. That figure was Bai Hong indeed, who bent over, sitting on the chair in front of the mirror. Her head was lowered, and her back turned against Xia Yu. From Xia Yu’s angle, she could only see her forehead through the mirror. However, that was enough for Xia Yu to recognize her.
Xia Yu finally heard her own heart beating in this dead and silent room like a tomb. She took steps and approached little by little until she got behind the chair. She tightly clasped her fingers and uttered, “Bai Hong!”
At this moment, her voice was so hoarse that she could hardly speak when she called Bai Hong’s name and stood behind her.
“Bai Hong!”
That person on the chair raised her head. A pale and thin face appeared in the mirror. The evening dress on her was already untidy, with a large stain of red wine on it.
Bai Hong on the chair didn’t look back. Instead, she stared at Xia Yu, who was standing behind her in the mirror.
Xia Yu stared at her, too. Through that mirror, she hoped that she could see the emotions in her eyes, whether it was anger or sorrow. But there seemed to be nothing inside just like a pool of stagnant water, which made Xia Yu feel perplexed.
She was supposed to say something at this moment? But she seemingly lost her ability in speaking at once. She tried a few times to speak, but every time she saw Bai Hong’s eyes in the mirror, she held her words back.
At last, Bai Hong spoke first. She raised her hand and caressed the corner of her eye. Now Xia Yu noticed that she held an empty wine glass in her hand, which was half-broken.
“You are back?” When she said so, she even raised the corners of her mouth, with a faint smile, as if she was saying some homely words.
Xia Yu was forced not to speak, so she only nodded.
“Ho! Then you are late. The farce has come to an end.”
Xia Yu gulped. “I just want to see you.”
“See me?” Bai Hong hummed again and raised her head, looking at the mirror. “Now you see me? Satisfied?” Her voice was cold and indifferent.
Xia Yu closed her eyes. She circumvented the chair and walked to Bai Hong’s side. The lounge was large and very bright. The person on the chair only wore an evening dress, who was still stinking of wine. The broken and empty wine glass in her hand glinted with coldness under the light, and its edge was sharp.
“It’s all over.” She said and lowered her head, trying to take away the broken glass in Bai Hong’s hand. When she touched her finger, she felt it was as cold as ice. She could not help wanting to hold her hand, but Bai Hong withdrew it quickly and stood up with a whoosh as if she got an electric shock. Suddenly, the broken goblet cut open her finger, and there was blood oozing out soon.
Xia Yu took a breath because of fear. “Can you give the goblet to me first?”
She was afraid that Bai Hong might hurt herself again, but Bai Hong grasped the broken glass more and more tightly, with more blood oozing out and dripping down to the floor.
“Bai Hong!” Xia Yu shouted. “Give me the glass!”
“Piss off!”
“Pass the glass to me!”
“I told you to piss off. Don’t you understand it?” Bai Hong suddenly became hysteric. Seeing more and more blood flowing out of her palm, Xia Yu walked forward and grasped her hand at once.
“Let go of the glass! You will hurt yourself in this way!” But Bai Hong turned a deaf ear to her, so Xia Yu had to separate Bai Hong’s fingers one after another. In this process, the broken glass pierced Xia Yu’s hand, too. Soon, these two people’s hands were stained with blood and sticky together.
Both of them were unwilling to let go of each other with a bloody smell and their hands cut by a piece of broken glass.
Xia Yu also became determined and endeavored to separate Bai Hong’s fingers from the glass one by one regardless of her pain. Xia Yu pulled the broken glass out of her hand. Xia Yu asked with her red eyes, out of breath, “What are you doing? Are you insane?”
“Yes, you can think so! Why did you still come here? To see how embarrassed I am? To see my pathetic situation which is caused by your nasty tricks? Then now you see it? Satisfied?” Bai Hong’s tone was very impulsive. Her red eyes were widened, and she glared at Xia Yu as if her eyes were immersed with much hatred.
Xia Yu’s heart was full of powerlessness. She really didn’t expect things to come to this point. “If you really believe so, I can do nothing to help. Your current look indeed makes me laugh at you. So, you want to remain this forever?”
Bai Hong didn’t answer.
Xia Yu breathed heavily. Her hands hurt like hell. She tightly grasped her hands and kept adjusting her breath.
“I’m not here to hear you yell or to see you get drunk on your own. I am here because I have something to talk to you. But your current situation makes me think that we cannot talk at all. I’ll wait for you to calm down. Now bandage your hand first!”
