Chapter 132: Chapter 0129 Xiao Su’s Cooking Skills
This was a rare opportunity for a meeting, and Yang Ping wanted to cherish it, not letting Director Han’s high hopes down.
He pondered hard over the topic for his speech, but could not find an appropriate one for the moment.
After all, unlike Director Tan and Director Tian, who had their own research topics, studying cutting-edge things.
Yang Ping felt he should give up and share his thoughts with Director Han.
Director Han was very open-minded: “Well then, there will be a surgical demonstration. If there is a rescue surgery at the Trauma Emergency Center during the conference, Tan Boyun will do a live surgery demonstration, showcasing our process and surgery. That guy has courage and creativity. You can also use a surgical demonstration to showcase yourself.”
This was more in line with his current situation; Yang Ping could manage it.
Yang Ping told Director Han about Su Nanchen introducing him to a patient.
Director Han was delighted: “This is good news, it means they trust you. Handle every patient with care, turn every surgery into a masterpiece, and your fame will spread naturally.”
The old and the young sat drinking tea while chatting, having a whale of a time.
Su Nanchen sent a WeChat message, saying that the patient would come to Sanbo Integrated Orthopedics in the afternoon to look for Yang Ping, arriving around four o’clock.
Little Su, Zhou Can, and Tang Fei headed to the dormitory to cook some dishes, which they planned to pack up and bring over. The group would have lunch together at noon.
With no emergencies at the moment and surgery times being controllable, everyone was relatively relaxed.
The hospital dormitory was a suite. Little Su and Zhou Can, who were roommates in a two-bedroom living room, were equipped with a kitchen, which made it very convenient for them to cook.
They had gone to the market early in the morning to buy ingredients, stating that they needed to celebrate the successful discharge of the first surgery patient that day.
Around 11 o’clock, the three girls brought the food to the dining room and asked Zhang Lin and Little Five to fetch rice from the canteen.
The food was packed in disposable containers, steaming hot and fragrant.
One by one, they were placed on the table. The leek fried eggs looked very unappetizing, being burnt. The carved decoration next to the cold dish was a bit awkward. The rest of the dishes looked beautiful and were of good quality.
“How could this dish look so unappealing, Zhou Can, did you make it?” Zhang Lin thought the leek and fried eggs looked very unappetising.
With his head lowered, Zhou Can looked wronged: “I’ve never cooked before. It’s already good that I’ve made something for you to eat, so don’t be picky.”
As Little Su adjusted the placement of the dishes, she said, “Zhou Can spent half an hour making this dish, stirring the eggs for over ten minutes. This is a labor of love from Zhou Can.”
“Yes! Little Su understands me.” Zhou Can grabbed Little Su’s hand.
“This dish, don’t comment on it. I made it.” Tang Fei voluntarily admitted, saving the awkwardly carved chilled dish from Zhang Lin’s critique.
“Where’s Xiao Qing? Invite her to eat with us. Zhang Lin, your pediatrician also needs to eat lunch, right?” Yang Ping suggested to Little Five and Zhang Lin.
“Emergency Department, don’t even think about getting away for lunch. It takes enough time to walk from the Emergency Building to the Integrated Orthopedics department to save several people.” Xiao Qing worked in the emergency department, which was tough, but the girl actually loved her hard work.
Zhang Lin, looking at the dishes: “Pediatrics is also quite busy. Why don’t I take some food to go and deliver it to her?”
“Look at Zhang Lin, Little Five, you need to learn from him. How considerate!” Liang Fatty exaggeratedly gestured.
“You’re just all talk.” Little Five poured cold water on Fatty, and Fatty shut up.
Little Su then took out two more meal boxes: “These are for your homes. They’re all set. It’s still early, and they definitely haven’t had lunch yet. Take them over. I packed a little of each dish.”
“My sister-in-law is so thoughtful.” The words slipped out of Zhang Lin’s mouth.
“Look at my mouth, always spouting out more than it should!” Zhang Lin slapped himself in the mouth.
Little Su’s face instantly turned as red as a red apple.
“I’ll go ahead and make the delivery, you guys wait for me, wait for me!” Zhang Lin shouted as he walked.
“Hurry up, I’m starving.” Fatty was getting impatient.
Zhang Lin turned back and took a photo: “Everything starts with a photo!”
“Zhang Lin, be honest when you get there. These were made by Little Su, don’t claim you made them to your wife.” Liang Fatty knew this guy was thick-skinned.
Little Five also rushed towards the Emergency Department with his lunchbox. Liang Fatty’s chopsticks were in his hand and about to reach out several times: “Let’s not wait for them, let’s start eating.”
“Fatty, you’re so disloyal,” Zhou Can angrily said.
Little Five and Zhang Lin returned, panting heavily. The two boys had clearly run a round trip.
“Time–time–to eat!” Zhang Lin gasped.
“Come, brother, you come, taste it first!” Little Five grabbed Liang Fatty’s hand.
After trying a bite, Yang Ping acknowledged the impressive culinary skills of Xiao Su.
The dishes were not only well-picked but also delicious, especially the sweet and sour pork ribs, which had an excellent taste. Such cooking skill couldn’t have come from mere self-learning, there must have been expert guidance.
“Call the standardized training students.” Yang Ping noticed they were missing.
“Already did, they all went to the hospital teaching room for procedure practice. The practical exam is in a few days, they are cramming.” Song Zimo replied.
Xiao Su’s cooking was excellent — it was savored by everyone. Even Zhou Can’s fried egg and Tang Fei’s mixed vegetables were all gone.
“Who is on duty today?” asked Yang Ping.
Zhang Lin raised his hand: “It’s my shift.”
“There’s a patient coming in with a torn meniscus around four, I’ll be in a meeting this afternoon. Let the on-duty doctor know, if the patient arrives, to have them wait in the meeting room. Patient is being referred by Su Nanchen from the affiliated hospital, we must handle this properly.” Yang Ping told Zhang Lin.
Everyone pitched in to clean up the trash and tidied up the dining area, leaving Yang Ping and Xiao Su in the dining room.
Xiao Su wiped the table twice, until it was squeaky clean.
Resting her chin on her hand, she looked at Yang Ping: “So, Su Nanchen from the affiliate hospital is referring patients to you? You guys are close?”
“Yes! Due to their bed crunch and long surgery waiting time, the patient was rather anxious, so he referred them here.” explained Yang Ping.
Xiao Su’s long eyelashes sparkled: “Doctor Yang is really something.”
“Little girl, why are you looking at me like that?” Yang Ping felt his face heat up under her gaze.
Still resting her chin in her hand, Xiao Su asked: “Had a close encounter with Professor Su yesterday, right?”
“Yes, I did. I messaged you about the meal on WeChat, and had it with them. Su Nanchen and I hit it off, he’s a very nice guy. Highly talented and modest, and lacks any arrogance. Professor Su is also very gentlemanly, which is why he’s so respected in the medical field.” Yang Ping praised.
Xiao Su stopped speaking and continued to gaze intently at Yang Ping.
“Why do I feel like all those with ‘Su’ as their surname are like this? They look good and have high IQs, like the one in front of me.” Yang Ping said with a laugh.
“Hmm, you’ve improved, you’re quite the flatterer.” Xiao Su withdrew her gaze.
“I’ve got to go back to preparing the meniscus suture instrument, and I have to get more meniscus suturing tools. Which one does it need? Made in our country?” Xiao Su gets busy too.
“Use the domestic-produced one! Xiao Su, you know me well!” Yang Ping preferred domestically manufactured medical equipment. Even though they might have been somewhat inferior to imported ones, if they were not supported, the domestic ones would never have the chance to improve.
The hospital’s sports medicine supplier had several vendors, including Shi Lehui, Arthrex, and a domestically manufactured one – Ruixing.
To do a good job, one must first sharpen one’s tools.
Yang Ping had studied all the sports medicine products on the market, thoroughly understanding their design principles, materials, pros and cons.
“Prepare more consumables for shoulder and knee arthroscopies. We’re going to be performing more in this area.” Yang Ping instructed Xiao Su.
Xiao Su returned to the operating room to prepare the tools. Yang Ping picked up his mobile phone, pulled out the text, images, and video data on these products he’d been collecting all this time and studied them all over again, not missing a single detail.
Heading to the department computer, he pulled up their open patent information and gave it another thorough study.
Yang Ping had a deep understanding of the entirety of the equipment; even deeper than the engineers who had designed them.
Director Tan sent a WeChat message informing everyone of a 4 p.m. meeting, an academic conference preparation report meeting.
Yang Ping didn’t have specific tasks for the academic conference preparations because he was in charge of general orthopedic surgeries.
Song Zimo, Little Five, Zhang Lin, and others had specific tasks.
The patient with synovial chondromatosis was very active, hobbling back and forth in the hallway with the aid of a walker.
Hermes finished the hospital admission paperwork for the operation, had lunch, returned to his room and was on the phone once more, speaking about increasing capital, funds and contracts and such.
“4 p.m. this afternoon, in the integrated orthopedics teaching room, academic conference preparation reporting meeting.”
The message was repeated in the academic conference preparation WeChat group, sent by Dr. Zhong.
Because Director Han’s office was in the Integrated Orthopedics Department, Tan Boyun felt that it was better to hold meetings closer to the head of the department.
