Chapter 513: Chapter 507: Crazy Idea
With a packet of food, Finn Lewis gained the trust of the two little ones, as he had eaten very little, giving most of the food to them. However, it couldn’t last for long, so Lewis needed to go out with McDon Taylor to find food.
For Lewis, this was excellent news because he needed to deal with the issues raised by the Parasite Humans. Being with McDon Taylor, who was familiar with the Parasite Humans and the surrounding environment, was undoubtedly beneficial. Besides a minor incident on the first day out with Taylor, Lewis had managed to survive and then quickly grew stronger thanks to his trusty handgun.
He didn’t use his two handguns very often. One simple reason was that Lewis had forgotten to acquire silencers. Although the power of the two Desert Eagles had been enhanced, their noise was no different from ordinary handguns. Firing a gun in such a city was essentially suicide.
Although Lewis was virtually safe from the Parasite Humans, he had to be cautious due to Taylor’s close proximity. Often during combat, Lewis would forget about the tricks at his disposal because of his nerves. However, the positive side was that this helped to integrate the knowledge fed into his mind by the Zero.
A month had passed in the blink of an eye, and Lewis had experienced drastic changes. The harshness of the apocalypse had taught him much in this short time. While his physical abilities had improved, with his skills surpassing those of special forces soldiers, the changes in his mentality were most significant. In this post-apocalyptic world, he had seen many things unseen in ordinary life. Lewis now resembled an old soldier who had survived a world war. There were no rules or morality in this world, only survival; and everything else was non-existent.
“We’re preparing to leave,” Lewis said, looking at McDon Taylor and Laura Rhodes in front of him.
Taylor and Rhodes nodded heavily. They chose to live here not because they wanted to stay but because they lacked the ability to escape from the city. Though there were abundant supplies in the city at the beginning, most of them had either been used up or spoiled over two years. If they didn’t escape now, they wouldn’t last much longer.
Before they had lacked the ability, but now it was different. With Lewis leading the way out, there was hope. Although it was a giant city in the past, there were not as many Parasite Humans there as they had expected. Lewis had decided to take them somewhere they could survive and then return to society.
Lewis had completed his mission half a month ago. Since then, he had taught Taylor survival skills and combat techniques. While Lewis couldn’t feed combat skills and experience directly into Taylor’s mind like Zero, Taylor was a fast learner. Taylor was different; he had lived in this world for over two years and had gained valuable combat experience.
Even though a lot of it was self-taught, those were lessons he learned from numerous near-death experiences, making them exceptionally practical. With slight guidance from Lewis, Taylor’s combat abilities improved significantly. All he lacked was a healthy body.
Lewis took Taylor and Rhodes and began moving through the sewers toward the outskirts of the city. Although there were dangers in the sewers, including several Parasite Humans, Lewis had no problem dealing with them. It took about half a day for Lewis to move from their hiding place to the city’s edge.
The next journey was the hardest because they couldn’t proceed through the sewers anymore. They had to escape the entire city above ground. Lewis arranged Taylor and Rhodes underground and stealthily opened the manhole cover on his head. According to the mini radar on his protective suit, there were no Parasite Humans nearby. Lewis was sure to double-check visually.
Once he confirmed there were no Parasite Humans around, Lewis opened the manhole cover and let Taylor and Rhodes come out. He found a map of Turner City in the past few days. After determining his current location on the map, he directed Taylor and Rhodes silently towards a certain direction.
But before they could leave the alley, a humming sound rang out, and the sky quickly darkened. Lewis was startled and looked up, which shocked him, Taylor, and Rhodes.
A huge shadow appeared in the clear sky, at least tens of kilometers high. Even so, its vast size almost obscured the entire sky. It resembled a giant airship. The only difference was its size was described as sky-covering!
“Zero, what is that?” Lewis didn’t care about hiding Zero’s existence. Anyone would be shocked by such a sight, even Lewis who had seen a cloaking spacecraft.
It was too huge! Can you imagine how terrifying it is to see something that can block the entire sky, especially when it’s tens of kilometers above the ground?
‘Parasite Insect Species Icarus’s Interstellar Transport Super Battle Beast—best known as Void Behemoth or Leviathan.’ Zero’s voice promptly echoed in Lewis’s mind.
