Chapter 488: Chapter 482: I Want an Answer
With a light “plunk” sound, a more than an inch long blade, instantly plunged into the man’s temple, sending a spray of blood. As the blood splattered on Sarah Wood’s face, even through the screen, Finn Lewis could feel a change in her aura.
“Olivia Thatcher, scan the object in Sarah Wood’s hand,” Finn called out with a gravity in his voice.
“It’s a specially crafted weapon disguised as a pen, made from a unique alloy.” Even though there was only one micro unmanned reconnaissance drone on the scene, it could still scan the specific composition of the object in her hand.
Finn Lewis nodded. Sarah Wood’s attack style had changed drastically. The women proficient in martial arts, who could fended off four men’s attacks at the beginning, had turned completely into a terrifying woman after she killed a man. Her techniques were completely changed from her initial style.
Each strike was deadly now, targeting the vital points of the human body, leaving no room for escape. After killing the first man, Sarah Wood rushed directly at the man who was attacking Kay Lee.
“Lewis the elder has arrived.” Olivia’s voice caused the scene on the windshield to split in two. Finn saw where Lewis the elder had appeared, at the sniper’s location, hidden several hundred meters away. Lewis the elder showed no mercy, attacking the sniper even before the latter had a chance to react. From a distance of about fifteen meters, he jumped directly at the sniper, strangling him instantly. With a twist of his hand, he snapped the man’s neck.
After eliminating the most dangerous sniper, Lewis the elder picked up his firearm and aimed at the scene, “Tell Lewis the elder to keep one alive,” Finn hurriedly said.
At Finn’s words, Lewis the elder on the screen threw down his gun and rushed into the battlefield. But observing the situation over there, Finn Lewis knew that as long as the sniper was eliminated, even if Lewis the elder did not appear, there wouldn’t be any major problems. Because Sarah Wood had already taken down three men, and obviously, she was holding back against the last one.
“How much longer till we get there?” Now that the situation on-site was under control, Finn let out a slight sigh of relief and asked.
“Five minutes.” Olivia gave an answer.
Finn nodded and focused on driving. With Lewis the elder present, unless heavy weapons were used, Finn believed that even a special forces squad wouldn’t be able to beat him.
Less than four minutes later, Finn arrived on scene. Spotting his arrival, Sarah Wood seemed to hesitate momentarily, but her face remained expressionless. Finn didn’t say anything and went straight to Kay Lee. Kay Lee, who had been hiding in an irrigation ditch, was obviously frightened. Upon seeing Finn, she threw herself into his arms and burst into tears.
“It’s okay now, it’s okay,” Finn pulled her into his arms, patting her shoulder and whispering reassurances.
Seeing Sarah Wood approaching, Finn gestured for her to stop. He could see Sarah hesitating, before she stopped in her tracks. As he continued to comfort Kay Lee, he also mulled over Sarah Wood’s true identity. By now, even a fool like him could tell there was something off about Sarah Wood. If she was good at hand-to-hand combat, Finn could ascribe it to her upbringing in a military family.
However, a woman who could ruthlessly and efficiently kill three men without so much as a blink, aimed at lethal parts of human body, could not have just been trained. Finn refused to believe it. Furthermore, a woman who could kill without showing any emotion and retain her composure after the act, couldn’t possibly be an ordinary woman.
Finn bent over to pick up Kay Lee, carrying her to the car, whispering reassurances. Only then did he close the car door. By the time he closed the door, Sarah Wood and Lewis the elder had approached, Lewis the elder was still holding the man, who evidently, appeared dead.
“How did he die?” Finn pointed to the man in Lewis the elder’s hand and asked.
“Poison. He had highly concentrated potassium cyanide hidden in his teeth. This toxin kills in three seconds, and without the appropriate tools, I can’t detoxify.” Lewis the elder’s voice was heavy.
“Hmm,” Finn nodded before turning to Sarah Wood, “It seems, we need to get reacquainted,” he said evenly.
“Special Agent, Sarah Wood.” Sarah Wood paused for a long while before extending her hand and uttering the words.
Special Agent… Finn had roughly guessed it, but he still let out a sigh of resignation. Moreover, he estimated that Sarah Wood wasn’t just any ordinary special agent. Taking lives without a second thought, she must have killed more than just a few people.
“Does she know?” Finn jerked his head backward towards his car as he asked.
“Even my parents don’t have a clear picture,” Sarah offered a bitter smile.
Finn sighed. It seemed his world was indeed filled with people planted by others. He had consistently focused on protecting those around him, never suspecting that someone had planted themselves into Kay Lee’s life, and so early on. He never saw it coming.
“Alright then, it appears you’ll be leaving?” Finn shook his head slightly, realizing why Sarah Wood became Kay Lee’s manager. It was clearly to investigate him.
“Do you think I can stay?” Sarah offered another bitter smile, glancing at the car behind Finn where Kay Lee was. She sighed in resignation and said, “Even if you don’t make me leave, Kay Lee will probably have her reservations about me from now on. Put yourself in her shoes, wouldn’t you find it hard to accept your best friend turning into a ruthless killer overnight?”
Even if it was to protect her, it would still be difficult to accept. After all, you’ve always assumed your best friend to be a normal person, and then she’s suddenly able to kill several people without batting an eyelash. Anybody would find it difficult to accept that.
“Thanks,” Finn said quietly.
“No need to thank. That was one of my duties. Since it’s like this, I’d better leave. We’ll take care of everything here,” Sarah glanced at Lewis the elder standing beside Finn before saying.
“Alright then, I’ll leave it to you guys,” Finn nodded. He had already heard the sound of a helicopter. Looking up at the incoming helicopter, he then turned again to go back to his car. Sarah Wood nodded, not uttering a word, resuming her emotionless countenance.
Finn sighed before turning around, opening the car door and climbing in. Lewis the elder also followed him to the driver’s side. Once in the car, Kay Lee immediately moved closer to him; she was evidently scared. Finn pulled her into his arms again and then spoke, “Olivia, look into who these people really were. Don’t leave any stone unturned.”
