Chapter 252: Chapter 252 Uninhabited
Seeing Wang Tian’er and Qi Shuheng head toward the stone statue, Lin Shen couldn’t help but frown slightly.
He didn’t care much about their lives, but the Lin Family at Dark Bird Base was reduced to a few caretakers.
If the Wang and Qi Families fell too, Dark Bird Base would probably become deserted soon, with no one left to stay there.
A base without any human presence wouldn’t be guarded by anyone for long.
If it really came down to just some old, feeble widowers unable to venture out, no one would be left with the ability to clear the nearby Base Variant Creatures, and Dark Bird Base would quickly become a dead city.
“Forget it, let them guard Dark Bird Base.” With that thought, Lin Shen summoned the Great Red Bull, mounted it, and took a position on a sand dune, making himself highly visible.
Wang Tian’er and Qi Shuheng indeed saw him, and they quickly halted their mounts, looking towards Lin Shen’s location.
“That person, looks like The Great Red Bull Knight, right?” Wang Tian’er said in a low voice to Qi Shuheng, noting Lin Shen’s outfit.
“Not necessarily, there are others now who have the Big Red Bull Mount and red Battle Clothes and helmet, not just The Great Red Bull Knight.” Qi Shuheng pondered.
“Whether or not he’s The Great Red Bull Knight, anyone who owns that gear must be extraordinary, and we’re no match for him. His appearance here is most likely related to the stone statue. It seems he is blocking our way, we better leave,” said Wang Tian’er, unwilling to take a risk.
Most importantly, they were illegal residents who had entered from Gourd Mountain and didn’t want their existence to be discovered.
“That sounds good,” Qi Shuheng said after looking at The Great Red Bull Knight on the sand dune, agreeing with Wang Tian’er’s decision.
With their strength, to have made it this far on Realm King Planet and also to have reaped considerable rewards, they owed it mainly to their caution.
The group turned around and went back without exchanging any pleasantries.
Lin Shen had been thinking about how to persuade them to leave without revealing his identity, but to his relief, they turned around and left without saying another word.
Wang Tian’er and the others hadn’t gotten far when suddenly, a series of noises came from the distance. They turned to look and saw a swarm of Green Crystal Warriors rushing from the desert on one side, startling them.
Upon closer inspection, they realized that these Green Crystal Warriors weren’t charging at them, but towards where The Great Red Bull Knight was.
They stopped in their tracks on the dune, watching the swarm of Green Crystal Warriors rush towards The Great Red Bull Knight’s location, but when their gaze returned to where The Great Red Bull Knight had just been, his figure was nowhere to be found.
“Eh, where did he go?” Wang Tian’er and the others were puzzled.
Soon they discovered that those Green Crystal Warriors were not aiming for The Great Red Bull Knight, but for the stone statue.
Before long, the troops of Green Crystal Warriors reached the stone statue. However, before they could attack it, countless black beetles flew out from the ears of the statue.
Wang Tian’er and his companions witnessed an unforgettable scene: hundreds of Green Crystal Warriors were engulfed by the dark cloud of black beetles and, in a mere moment, not even crumbs of them were left.
Wang Tian’er and the others were terrified and dared not linger any longer, wildly urging their mounts to flee from the statue.
“The Great Red Bull Knight’s appearance there must have been to warn us not to get close to the statue, right?” Once they were far enough not to see the black beetles or the statue, Qi Shuheng slowed down his mount and spoke with an unsettled voice.
“That must be it. If he hadn’t stopped us, we’d be the ones left with no remains instead of those Crystal Base Warriors.” Wang Tian’er was also frightened, realizing how close they had come to death.
“Such a life-saving favor, we should properly thank him if we get the chance.”
“I used to scoff at the radio hosts who praised The Great Red Bull Knight as the protector of humans. Today I realized it was my past ignorance.”
“From now on, if anyone says The Great Red Bull Knight isn’t a protector of humans, I’ll give them a piece of my mind.”
Having narrowly escaped death, everyone felt deeply grateful to The Great Red Bull Knight, but unfortunately, they could no longer see him.
Lin Shen had also witnessed the scene where the black beetles devoured the Green Crystal Warrior and discovered that their flight speed and strength were both top-notch, likely possessing 40 in both speed and strength.
Moreover, they seemed to be nearly immortal, one Purple Crystal Warrior had crushed the carapace of a black beetle to tatters, yet the beetle had quickly recovered to its original state.
Lin Shen conjectured that to kill these black beetles, one would probably have to kill the Blood-Face Bug first; killing only the black beetles would be futile.
His set time had arrived, so he returned to the stone house on Giant Ring Star.
The room was still pitch-dark; taking out a flashlight, he shone it around. His sister was still lying on the bed asleep with no anomalies.
With Six Paths Phoenix around his sister, she would not be harmed by a common ascension, about which Lin Shen was quite reassured.
After turning off the flashlight, there was no longer any light in the room, and he looked at the wall subconsciously—the dim yellow light no longer seeped through.
He listened attentively for a while but heard no more singing from the woman, presuming she had already gone to sleep.
Lin Shen sat on the stone, began to practice the Immortality Scripture, and decided to endure through the night.
Recently, Lin Shen had no immediate plans to travel to Realm King Planet; he would first secure his footing on Giant Ring Star.
With plenty of time in the future, he could travel to Realm King Planet with each coming nighttime, unnoticed by anyone.
As the night stretched out, Lin Miao drank another bowl of medicine soup, improving bit by bit. The fever had subsided, leaving only a slight one behind, but the black spots on her body had not yet faded.
The dawn on Giant Ring Star came abruptly, lighting up the sky in an instant without a gradual transition from darkness to light.
Hearing some commotion outside, Lin Shen pushed open the door to look and saw many people emerging from their stone houses.
Some were packing up their belongings, while others appeared ready to leave this village-like place, seemingly prepared to hunt for Base Variant Creatures.
Lin Shen glanced at the neighboring room; the door was open and it was empty.
“That woman sure is diligent, leaving so early,” Lin Shen thought to himself.
Just as he was about to go see the Ximen Swordsman, he saw him staggering out, looking as if his fever had broken and the black spots on his skin were not as dark. His recovery seemed to be progressing even better than Lin Miao’s.
“Where are you going?” Lin Shen asked, blocking the Ximen Swordsman as he wobbled towards the outskirts of the village.
“Hunting Base Variant Creatures, to earn some money,” the Ximen Swordsman replied.
“You’re in no shape to hunt Base Variant Creatures. You should rest for a few days, get better first,” Lin Shen advised.
“No money, no rest,” the Ximen Swordsman said and kept walking, ignoring Lin Shen.
“Your friend is quite stubborn,” Yu commented, walking up with a smile.
“Is it dangerous around here?” Lin Shen asked Yu.
“Within a dozen miles from here, as long as you don’t go up into the mountains, there are mostly steel and Alloy Creatures around, not too dangerous. But with your friend’s condition, he probably doesn’t have the combat capability, does he?” Yu remarked.
“I’ll check it out in a bit,” Lin Shen said before asking casually about the neighboring woman, “Yu, who was that woman staying next door yesterday?”
“A woman? What woman?” Yu was slightly taken aback.
“The one who stayed in that room. I heard her singing next door,” Lin Shen pointed at the stone house.
“Nobody stayed in that stone house yesterday,” Yu’s expression turned somewhat grim.
