Chapter 140: Chapter 140 Spirit Base Pearl
Lin Shen and Zuo Qinglong and the others also noticed the strange object in the eccentric’s hands, but they just didn’t speak up.
The eccentric sat cross-legged, akin to a Taoist meditating, his hands joined in front of his lower abdomen.
Between his hands, there was a bead the size of a billiard ball, but no one would mistake it for a Base Mutation Egg.
Because the bead was crystal clear, like flawless crystal, with red glows flowing inside, resembling the streaming of red clouds.
Most importantly, within the bead, there was an odd Spirit Pattern, shimmering golden-yellow, in the shape of a lobster.
The moment Lin Shen saw it, he recognized what it was.
The Life Base of the Ascenders, known as the Spirit Base to others, and yet to many, it’s also referred to as the Blade of the Heart.
The red Jade Sword, Zheng Guyuan’s Spirit Base, is still hidden in the Lin Family’s possession.
This was the second time Lin Shen had seen a Spirit Base, but unlike Zheng Guyuan’s red Jade Sword, this Spirit Base was not a weapon, but a pearl instead.
Xu Tiange, lacking knowledge, did not know that the bead was a Spirit Base, but Zuo Qinglong and Tu Xiaodao recognized it at first glance, their eyes lighting up instantly.
Although they were still Mutators, not yet Ascenders, unable to truly activate the Spirit Base or unleash its true power.
But they were only a half-step away from Ascension, bound to ascend sooner or later, and no one would refuse the good fortune of obtaining a Spirit Base early.
However, there was only one Spirit Base, and there were seven or eight people here, so how to allot it was a difficult matter; hence, several people remained silent, only Xu Tiange, that blockhead, thought he had sharp eyes and was the first to discover the pearl.
After Xu Tiange spoke, seeing that everyone was still silent, with no one answering, he sensed something fishy and quickly shut his mouth, looking towards Lin Shen.
“This is the Spirit Base, right?” Lin Shen, seeing the situation, knew it would be impossible to greedily keep the Spirit Base for himself and thus openly spoke up.
“It should be a Spirit Base. However, Ascenders can’t enter the Realm King Planet, so there shouldn’t be any Ascenders here, right? If this eccentric is an Ascender, how did he get in?” Zuo Qinglong pondered aloud.
“Perhaps this isn’t his Spirit Base, and he just brought it to the Realm King Planet,” another Crystal Base from the Sword Alliance added.
“That’s possible. However, if he’s not an Ascender, carrying a Spirit Base won’t enable its use, so what’s the use of bringing it here?” Tu Xiaodao evaluated the eccentric before continuing, “Moreover, looking at his condition, he should have come to the Realm King Planet not recently. So when did he arrive? Is he human or from an Alien Species?”
“Looking at him, how could he be human?” The previously mentioned Crystal Base remarked.
“He’s neither human nor does he seem like he’s from an Alien Species. After all, even though Alien Species look weird, they are, just like humans, standard carbon-based life forms. They wouldn’t be like him, half metal and half flesh and blood,” Tu Xiaodao shook his head.
Everyone felt this person was too peculiar, resembling both humans and Base Variant Creatures, a type of life they had never seen before.
“Regardless, let’s take down the Spirit Base first,” Zuo Qinglong looked towards Lin Shen and proposed, “The item was discovered by us together; how about our three families share it equally? However, since the Spirit Base is indivisible, let’s unearth the body to see if there’s anything else to be found first, then decide on the division. If there are no other finds, our Sword Alliance is willing to pay an equivalent to trade for your share. What do you think?”
This suggestion by Zuo Qinglong was already quite fair; there were four members from the Sword Alliance present, two from Lin Shen’s side, and only Xu Tiange from the Xu Family.
Being able to divide the findings this way, Zuo Qinglong was already considering the favor since Lin Shen had saved them in the past.
“Fine,” Lin Shen nodded; after all, he presently had no use for it, and it would be good to exchange for something useful to him. Moreover, the eccentric had originally been found by the Sword Alliance.
Xu Tiange had even less to disagree with, as he was the youngest and weakest both in terms of strength and influence here. Being able to get a share was already good for him, let alone a whole third.
Seeing no objections from anyone, Zuo Qinglong then had someone retrieve the Spirit Base from the eccentric’s hands.
A Mutator from the Sword Alliance directly used a Base Mutation Carapace to shield himself as he carefully reached for the Spirit Base Pearl next to the strange person.
The strange person had no breath of life, being a dead man, there was naturally no need for caution.
The pearl was in the strange person’s hands, and after the Mutator grasped the sphere, he pulled hard twice but could not remove it.
Seeing that the pearl was firmly clamped between the hands of the strange person, the Mutator had to grab his hands, intending to pry them apart first.
As a result, upon this pull, the skin on the strange person’s hands tore with ease, revealing that he was wearing a pair of thin gloves.
Because the color closely matched the skin and was covered with white frost, it hadn’t been noticed at first.
Now that the gloves had been torn, his true palms were immediately revealed.
The two hands were joined together, one a normal flesh and blood palm, the other forged from steel.
The flesh palm was lower, the steel palm on top, and the Spirit Base Pearl was stuck in the grip of the steel palm, no wonder it couldn’t be pulled out no matter how much it was tugged.
“It seems the only way is to chop off his hand; otherwise, we won’t be able to get the pearl out,” said the Mutator, looking toward Zuo Qinglong.
Zuo Qinglong frowned slightly; he had no wish to damage the corpse, yet on closer examination, the hand of steel seemed cast from a single piece, immovable. The Spirit Base Pearl was stuck and couldn’t be extracted unless the steel fingers could be pried apart.
“Don’t ruin his body, just bend the fingers,” Zuo Qinglong suggested after some contemplation.
The Mutator nodded and reached to bend the strange person’s steel thumb upward. With the fingers moved aside, the pearl should be retrievable.
After using his Strength twice, the Sword Alliance Mutator’s face changed; he, a Crystal Base, had used all his strength yet couldn’t budge the thumb.
With his Strength, even a special alloy used in space stations should be bendable, but this finger showed no signs of giving in.
“Such unyielding metal!” exclaimed the people from the Sword Alliance, not alarmed but delighted instead.
Metal that even a Crystal Base couldn’t bend was a valuable commodity; if it could be taken back, it would represent a considerable fortune.
Having no choice, Zuo Qinglong allowed the Mutator to use a weapon.
He drew out a dagger that looked like green jade and ferociously chopped at the finger.
Clang!
After a crisp sound, the Mutator’s palm trembled with the shock, but the finger remained intact.
For a moment, everyone exchanged glances, such hard metal was indeed rare.
Yet with the Spirit Base in sight and unobtainable, everyone felt an unwillingness in their hearts.
“It seems there is only one method left,” the dagger-wielding Mutator suggested, looking at Zuo Qinglong, “Chop off its fleshly hand, and we can extract the pearl from the other side.”
After speaking, he turned his gaze to Zuo Qinglong, waiting for his decision.
But he noticed that the expressions of Zuo Qinglong and the others seemed a bit off; there was a clear shock in their eyes as they stared transfixed behind him.
“What’s happened?” The heart of the Mutator skipped a beat. Besides the strange person’s corpse, what else could be behind him?
