Chapter 43: Grounded
After he left, the doctor gasped in surprise. “Auntie Zhang, is this lady Young Master Mu’s girlfriend?”
“She must be. Otherwise, have you seen Young Master Mu behave in such a manner with other ladies?”
Well, that…
Auntie Zhang shook her head. “Alright, we should not interfere with Young Master Mu’s business. Let’s go out, we must not wake her from her sleep.”
“If you disturb her from her sleep, we will have to be prepared to be sent out of the house.”
…
The doctor in the manor of the Qin family was well-known for their medical skills.
Therefore, as predicted, Gu Shinian’s fever went down that night.
She woke up the next morning.
There was a strong smell of disinfectant fluid in the room. Gu Shinian got down the bed and went to the garden.
She had barely stepped out of the house and she was being stopped by the bodyguards at the door.
“Miss Gu, you can’t go out.”
Gu Shinian remained motionless as she posed a rhetorical question to herself in a mocking tone. “Was he serious about imprisoning me?”
The two bodyguards looked at each other. One of them answered respectfully. “Miss Gu, you have been thinking too much. You are still unwell. Young Master Mu is worried about you.”
Gu Shinian smiled bitterly, pursing her lips stubbornly. “If I insist on going out?”
She stepped forward and the two bodyguards immediately intercepted her.
“Miss Gu! Please… don’t make things difficult for us!”
Gu Shinian bit her lips angrily, she felt a sense of humiliation.
Qin Muchen, are you bent on taking the last shards off my dignity away?
The butler, Auntie Zhang saw her and she hurried to put down the fruits in her hands. “Miss Gu, you are still recovering from your illness, please go back to rest.”
With that, she pulled her back to the house.
“How long does he intend to lock me inside the house?” Gu Shinian asked.
The butler’s hands trembled slightly, smiling dryly. “Young Master Mu is not locking you inside the house.”
“Does he… have to use a metal chain to chain me up before he is considered as locking me up?”
The butler’s lips twitched slightly. She had no intention to speak up for her young master.
Gu Shinian pulled the blanket and covered her head with it. There were mixed emotions in her eyes.
What had gone wrong?
It was impossible that Qin Muchen received news of it that quickly.
…
Qin Muchen went on a business trip after that day.
However, although he was on a business trip, he would receive a phone call every day.
—Young Master Mu, Miss Gu’s fever had gone down.
—Her appetite is better now. She had a bowl of porridge today.
—She had been watching movies in the audio-visual room the entire day.
—Miss Gu had nightmares.
—We had fetched Gun Gun back from the pet clinic. It could recognize Miss Gu.
The phone call gave him all the details about her day.
Qin Muchen placed the cell phone casually on the table. He lay on the sofa, closing his eyes, rubbing the spot between his eyebrows that was in pain.
Fu Yi came in to deliver documents. He could not help but blink at his exhaustion.
Half a month had passed. To this day, he still could not understand Qin Muchen’s actions.
Why did Qin Muchen snatch Tang Yan’s chance to go on a business trip to go all the way to France? Did he do that to get away from Gu Shinian?
If so, why did he insist on having a call every day to know how she had been doing?
Fu Yi felt perplexed.
But he felt much better at the thought of the shocked look that the four men at SEC Corporation had when they knew that Qin Muchen was going on a business trip in Tang Yan’s stead.
Since all of them did not know the reason, it was impossible that he would know the answer.
“Young Master Mu, this is the financial statement of the month.”
Qin Muchen remained silent.
After a long time, he slowly picked up the report and took a look at it, his expression darkened.
That was a huge sum.
