Chapter 37: Eloquence and Charm

Segman didn’t lose his rationality in his rage however, and he moved his gaze away from those strange humans and stared at the entrance of the Tower of Trials.
He saw the silhouette of the prince of Darkfire at the entrance of the tower easily, because the man in question was way too chubby, and he was so physically unfit that he would pant and get dizzy after running for a little.
But the thing that pissed Segman off the most was how much more gifted at magic this fatty was than him.
Segman and the old mage hid in a corner and watched as Shuzel came out with five adventurers that looked somewhat more normal.
He still couldn’t make sure who these strange bunch of people were, so he could only temporarily categorize them as adventurers or mercenaries.
As the prince of Darkfire dabbed at his sweat with a handkerchief as he bowed gratefully at the party, before disappearing from the plane in a flash of light.
“So he was just hiring them, hm?” Segman quickly made the conclusion that those adventurers weren’t people from Darkfire, and that they were just mercenaries working for him.
“Your Highness, I think we should talk to them,” advised the old mage.
“I agree.”
Segman walked towards the five adventurers, and what made him confused was that they didn’t have any caution and were talking and joking within themselves without any indication that they were somewhere dangerous.
“Guildmaster, if you didn’t bring along that NPC that had 0 Agility, we would probably be a few minutes faster no?”
“Think of it as experimenting with new strategies. Also, getting a full set of six skins really helps with clearing the dungeon.”
As the Jumping Nucleons Guild was discussing what to do next, Segman had already made his way to them.
Their clothes were ones that Segman could…Somewhat accept, and because none of them were wearing skins, Segman could somewhat tell which roles they were.
A priest, two mages, and two adventures that looked like warriors…Or mercenaries?
Segman could feel strong magic from the five, at least on the same level as his own.
“Greetings, adventurers.” Segman fixed his appearance a little before talking with these people.
The five members of Jumping Nucleon looked at Segman, and before the Shielder MomADogIsBarking could go up to them, he was blocked by InkFlashback.
“Another new quest! Which one of you has the highest Eloquence and Charm?” InkFlashback asked the other members of the party.
“BlackPotMeat has the highest stats in both,” replied a member in the party.
“I know that, but he isn’t online right now. What about you guys? Tell me your numbers.”
InkFlashback’s party wasn’t complete, because BlackPotMeat the Battle Mage wasn’t online today. His Eloquence and Charm were the highest in the Jumping Nucleons guild.
He thought these NPC quests only activated once a day, but it seems that the system involved with it wasn’t as InkFlashback thought it was.
“My Charm is negative three so…” sighed the Elemental Mage with the ID YourMomDiesTonight.
“How did you get it that low? I have five Charm and seven in Eloquence, what about you guys?” The Shielder didn’t forget to make fun of the former before asking the others.
“Seven and three,” SingingInTheRain replied shortly.
“Oh? With BlackPot gone I’m the most attractive one in our team! I have twenty in Charm and twenty-one in Eloquence, let me do it!”
FluffyRabbit raised his hand and waved it excitedly. His class was Bishop, which had no problem in itself, but his avatar was female while he was a male in real life. In other words, this was…a trap account.
That was fine in itself, but the Tiangong Game Platform had a voice changer attachment. This attachment made it so that players learned a very important lesson: Don’t get into relationships over the internet!
“Go get em’, bro.” InkFlashback waved towards Segman, and FluffyRabbit pranced towards the prince.
Segman tried to listen to what these bunch of people were discussing about, but he couldn’t hear what this bunch of people were saying. Even if he did, he wouldn’t have had a clue about what they were saying.
As FluffyRabbit bounced over to Segman in a manner befitting his ID, a certain prince who had seen countless women was amazed by this Bishop’s beautiful appearance and charming aura.
Charm was the hardest stat to increase in the game, and it was unable to be raised through leveling up. It could only be increased by doing multiple quests, and hidden ones at that. There were also some equipment that could be equipped to increase the stat too.
Another reason why it was hard to increase was because these stats would be depleted through various missions and several actions as well.
At this point in the game, most players in the game would only have 3~5 Charm, which was that of a normal person. FluffyRabbit’s Charm had been pulled up to twenty points using a special piece of equipment called the Venus’ Jade Hairpin.
Five points meant ‘normal’, ten points meant ‘good-looking’, fifteen points meant ‘beautiful and alluring’, twenty points was on the cusp of the next level, while twenty five points meant that they were so beautiful and ephemeral that they could bewitch a whole country.
This stat was completely useless for players, but it was completely different when communicating with NPCs. Eloquence determined whether they could convince the NPC, but the Charm decided whether they would want to talk with you in the first place.
Judging from his expression, Segman wanted to talk with FluffyRabbit just fine, and even wanted to go on a date and talk for the whole night.
“You… is there something you need?”
After playing Sacred Souls for thirteen days, he had gotten used to communicating with NPCs through speech.
“I have a request.”
Segman couldn’t help but muse on how women really were the treasures of the world, and his rage had been duly quelled by her soft spoken demeanor.
“Request? What request?”
This sentence was the standard NPC dialogue, and the type that just threw the bag onto them without any further description.
Segman coughed awkwardly, coming back to his senses from FluffyRabbit’s looks.
“I hope you can help me break the first sacred record on the Stone Slab of Honor,” Segman wanted to test them with this request, and FluffyBunny’s presence gave him the idea to recruit them into his country.
These adventurers were strange, but the fact that they could clear the first level was proof that they were skilled enough to warrant his attention.
As Segman said those words, a dialogue box appeared in front of FluffyRabbit.
There were five options available for him to choose.
Agree (High chance of reward, increases affection with Segman by 30)
Bargain (Increases rewards, 20%~40% failure rate, affected by Eloquence and Charm)
Ask for reason (Required Charm:15~18)
Decline (Affection with Segman lowered by 50)
Ignore (Affection with Segman lowered by 30)
These five choices were all somewhat vague, giving hints to FluffyRabbit how to continue with the following conversation. Of course, he could reply in other ways.
“I need to know what benefits I can get from this?” FluffyRabbit promptly chose the second choice, and he wanted to know what rewards they could get too.
