Chapter 76: Chapter 76: Convergence
Guo Yang’s apartment was on the eighth floor of the complex. Although the elevator still had power and could be used, they dared not recklessly enter it, fearing they might get trapped inside and be unable to call for help.
The zombies in the hallways had been mostly cleared by them in the previous days; however, their car was parked in the underground garage, which meant they needed to go down another level.
The underground garage was pitch dark as the motion-sensor lights were no longer working. Fortunately, Guo Yang had a flashlight at home, and even with that, all three felt an eerie presence.
Since Guo Yang had discovered his Space Element Ability before leaving, the three of them were traveling light, apart from the weapons they carried.
Liao Yifan, dressed in a deep blue jacket of Guo Yang’s and sporting a neat short haircut, looked even more dashing.
“Fanfan, we really are a perfect match, even the clothes fit so well,” Guo Yang said, watching the cool Liao Yifan walking ahead and feeling more pleased with his choice of woman by the minute.
“Shut up!”
Liao Yifan and Xue Wanyi both glared at him simultaneously. The kid, wasn’t he afraid of attracting zombies?
Because Guo Yang had bought a lot of items, he had parked his car closest to the staircase.
He took out his car keys and pressed them, and the car’s sensing system beeped twice, sounding especially crisp in the deserted underground garage.
Xue Wanyi and Liao Yifan both inhaled sharply.
Guo Yang spread his hands, indicating this was not his fault.
Just as Guo Yang approached the car, suddenly, a shadow darted out from behind the right side of the car, and just as it was about to pounce on Guo Yang, Liao Yifan kicked it into the wall.
“Tsk tsk, looks like it might have broken its bones,” Xue Wanyi said, watching the zombie that couldn’t even crawl now.
“Thanks, Fanfan. I will definitely repay you by dedicating my life to you,” Guo Yang said, tears welling up in his eyes, although he lost count of how many times Liao Yifan had saved him.
Xue Wanyi, seeing the zombie that couldn’t get up, directly used his Wind Blade to chop off its head.
“No Crystal Core, let’s go,” Xue Wanyi said sadly.
The noise attracted many zombies, but the trio was already in the car, and Guo Yang immediately stepped on the gas to leave the garage.
Liao Yifan whistled at the group of zombies following them, and Guo Yang even turned on the car’s music to the fast-paced electronic music he loved before the apocalypse.
Xue Wanyi felt that the atmosphere inside their car was in complete contrast to that on the streets outside, where burnt-out shells of private and public buses were scattered haphazardly along the roadside, some still emitting thick smoke. The glass windows of shops on both sides were mostly shattered, not to mention the puddles of blood and wandering zombies on the roads.
“This is just too…” Liao Yifan murmured as she looked at the scene outside, wondering how her colleagues were doing. She might not have had family, but her colleagues treated her exceptionally well, of course, no one dared to treat her badly either.
“Fanfan, don’t be scared. Once we reach Lu Hao’s place, he will protect us,” Guo Yang said while forcefully hitting a zombie in front of them.
“Can’t you be a bit more ambitious and not always rely on others for protection?” Liao Yifan rolled her eyes.
“You don’t know, that kid still owes me…”
Before Guo Yang could finish speaking, he noticed a military vehicle blocking their way ahead and hastily hit the brakes, shocked.
It seemed there were no more zombies on this road; Guo Yang was the first to get out of the car. The moment he opened the door, several machine guns immediately targeted him.
“Don’t shoot, I’m human, not a zombie!” Guo Yang quickly said.
Then, a man wearing military boots stepped down from the vehicle. If Lu Hao had been there, he would have recognized him as Lian Jiyue, the stern-faced instructor who had trained him and who had seen Su Jin using her Special Ability that day.
Lian Jiyue had coincidentally been on a mission in H City when the zombie outbreak occurred. Due to the suddenness of the event, an infection broke out among his squad, leaving him as the sole survivor.
Luckily, he had awakened his Metal Element Ability and had now received an order to eliminate a Special Ability Zombie. Unexpectedly, on the deserted streets, he encountered Guo Yang and his company.
At that moment, Liao Yifan and Xue Wanyi also got out of the car, standing behind Guo Yang, with the blaring electronic music still audible from the opened door.
“Out for a stroll?” Lian Jiyue asked the trio in front of him, clearly noticing that the two behind were well-trained, but the one at the front…
“We are going to stay with a friend now, they live nearby,” Guo Yang said, not a bit nervous; even though it was the apocalypse, they shouldn’t bother them just for passing by.
Sure enough, after looking them over a few times, Lian Jiyue gestured for his people to lower their guns.
“There might be a Mutated Zombie ahead; be careful,” Lian Jiyue mentioned as he opened the car door.
What?
Zombies can mutate?
What even is a Mutated Zombie?
Is it the kind with three heads and six arms?
With heads full of questions, the trio continued toward the location of Lu Hao. Although the man had a sour face, he had kindly warned them, hoping they wouldn’t be so unlucky as to encounter that Mutated Zombie.
