512 Deflection: Part 3
“This is a chaotic era. Many people from the Astral Mere have returned and started to collect the Sacred Vessels and Paragons of Destiny in advance. They must be up to something!” Hanyu muttered in his mind.
The Astral Mere possessed the world’s most unique power: the ability to time-travel. The so-called power of prediction was actually a derivative of the ability to time-travel. With a firm belief in the future, the Astral Mere had been quietly collecting the world’ most precious core resource: the Sacred Vessel and Paragon of Destiny. But what was their ultimate aim? The two did not know.
Since they were back to this era, they should not miss the biggest opportunity, no matter what. They were going to help the Night Matriarch while she still had not mastered the dark power. While the two were in deep thought, a car was heard stopping outside.
“Who is it?” Puzzled, Lin Zhounian stood up. Looking out through the opened front door, he saw a tall figure emerging from a car and coming to the door.
“Ahh, it’s Lin Sheng!” He strode out to meet his son, grinning from ear to ear.
Gu Wanqiu had gotten to her feet, running into the kitchen to fetch rice for him. She knew Lin Sheng could still gobble at least a few bowls of rice, even if he had eaten before.
“Lin Sheng?” Hanyu and Nisse were startled as they saw Lin Sheng walking in through the doorway. They vaguely recalled in the record of the Night Matriarch that she had a young brother. But his tall build was knocking their socks off. Hanyu looked on, dumbstruck, as Lin Sheng, standing at two meter five, sat down at the table, holding his bowl of rice in his hand, reaching his chopsticks to finish half the dish.
“Had I known you were coming home today, I’d have prepared more.” Gu Wanqiu poured Lin Sheng a glass of water, feeling sorry for her dear son. “Look at you, life must be hard out there. You look skinnier than when you came home a few days ago.”
Skinnier? Lin Zhounian, Hanyu and Nisse glanced at the knotty muscles on Lin Sheng’s body and rolled their eyes in unison, wondering how Gu Wanqiu came to that conclusion.
“Yeah, I have been busy.” Lin Sheng smiled, eyes landing on the two kids. There were no unusual scents in them, obviously they were just ordinary humans. So he suspected nothing.
“Where is Elder Sis? I saw her motorcycle outside. Has she come home?” asked Lin Sheng.
After breaking into the Legend realm, he was expecting to take a long time to achieve the coherence of divinity. That was why he came to visit his family before he went about that. Besides, he had to put in a backup plan here in case the Black Tide went on a rampage earlier than expected. He needed to be prepared. When the Black Tide intensified its corrosion, he needed to know at the first instant and deal with the nine-fingered giant hand. Except for him, no one could fight the black hand.
“Your elder just arrived not longer before you. She is resting upstairs. You should talk to her when she comes down. We need to keep our family close-knit,” Gu Wanqiu said softly.
“I know, mom.”
Gu Wanqiu then introduced the two kids to Lin Sheng. Knowing that they were kids of their neighbors, he gave them a smile but said nothing.
Hanyu and Nisse started to wonder why Lin Sheng looked more like the head of the family from the moment he walked in. From the history records they had read earlier, the Night Matriarch had a simple family with no particular figure worth mentioning. So most of the information was superficial. But it seemed that in the Night Matriarch’s family, something else was unusual.
While the two were exchanging eye contact, footsteps came from upstairs. Lin Xiao was coming down. She had taken a shower, changed into a smart purple woman’s shirt and long dress pants. Seeing Lin Sheng sitting at the dining table, Lin Xiao had a broad smile spreading across her face.
“You’re back, Sheng Sheng! Why didn’t you inform me earlier?”
“It was a last-minute decision, no time to make a call. You know, the mobile signal coverage now is very restricted.” Lin Sheng smiled. He suddenly squinted, staring at Lin Xiao for a while as if he had found something.
“Why are you staring at me like that?” Lin Xiao’s smile froze.
Lin Sheng did not answer right away, just carefully studying her. After that, he asked, “Have you felt anything unwell with your body lately?”
She thought for a moment. “No.”
Lin Sheng still stared at her. He could sense something amiss, but he could tell what it was. That was what made him suspicious. He then thought of what Lin Xiao had told him about a man named Lange and wanted his help to check the man out.
Could it be the man named Lange? Lin Sheng’s heart missed a beat. But his priority was to elevate his strength to fight against the impending attack from the Black Tide. There was no guarantee that the Black Tide’s strength would remain at the previous level. If it upped its strength level, and he was up to it, the world would be doomed.
Thinking of this, he quickly instructed through telepathy the powerful ones from the local sanctum to investigate the matter. The commanders and generals had more important tasks than this. It was not worth the hassle and risk to summon them here. So he first asked the experts in surveillance and investigation to check out the matter. After all, he had not found anything could threaten her life yet. There was no hurry.
“Let’s not worry about it. You want to get something to eat?” Lin Sheng held up his bowl.
“No. I’ll see you later. I have something to ask you,” Lin Xiao said.
“All right.”
Their conversation was so short and concise that Hanyu and Nisse were scratching their heads quietly.
After the meal, Gu Wanqi got to her feet to start cleaning up. Lin Sheng got up, wanting to help. Just then, his mobile phone rang. He took a glimpse and found that Adolf was calling.
Since back to the Sanctum, Adolf had restored to his original position, in-charge of planning and operation, including logistics. He was practically the C.E.O.. The call was about the sacred crystal font. After its upgrade, many people were showing signs of mental disorder because of the overpowering purification force field. Since Lin Sheng was the only person who could access the holy crystal font, Adolf had to call him to return to handle the situation.
A minute ago, he was thinking of talking to his elder sister later. Now he could not. He quickly instructed Khadula to check out the situation here while he hurried back to the Sanctum to deal with the situation there. He needed to fix these things first before he could cultivate behind closed-door to elevate himself to the next level.
Watching as Lin Sheng left, Lin Xiao sighed. She had a lot to talk to his young brother. She was getting insomnia, there were changes in her school, the sad news of the death of her classmate, the changes of the environment, and she was eager to know how her young brother was doing. But she could not find a chance to talk to him.
Suddenly, she thought of Lange.
“If you find anything troubling you, you can come here to have a drink, calm down, listen to your breathing, and empty your mind. It is a superb way to unwind.”
The scene of Lange holding a glass of wine sitting by the window flashed across her mind.
“Since I don’t really know him. Maybe he would make a good confidant.”
