Chapter 375: Chapter 5 of Volume 3: Living Time
“You bunch of fools, if you want to die, leave me out of it.” Seeing the magic attack heading towards Li Yao, Ilebell’s face changed dramatically; her mount ran crazily towards the distance.
Observering her reaction, the adventurers around her did not understand what was going on, but they knew something was imminent, and they scattered in the direction she fled towards.
“What are you idiots waiting for? Run!” Li Yao, seeing War Horizon and his team trying to block the magic, urgently shouted.
Wham! Wham!
Everyone’s reaction was extremely quick, they utilized their survival skills to leave before the attack.
Smack! Smack!
A dozen remote attacks landed, but did not hit Li Yao, who was shielded by a silver light that blocked all of the attacks.
“Alert system: Alert, alert, intruder detected.”
“Attack system: Target locked, exterminate intruder.”
“Damn it, run.”
The players launching the attacks realized the danger too late and attempted to flee.
A multi-faced orb glowing with golden light burst out of the door, followed by a scorching golden light resembling a laser beam.
Thud, thud, thud, thud, thud…
No player could withstand the beam for even a moment. As the beam swept across, beams of white light shot up, with some agile players trying to dodge the beam sweep.
Then, a golden ball of light fell and an explosion unfolded, followed by those attacking Li Yao, all collapsed to the ground.
Some slow-running players were affected, costing several lives.
“Damn those rookies! If you want to die, go ahead, but don’t involve me.” Ilebell’s goblin face turned pale with anger: “I’ll say it once more if anyone violates orders and acts on their own, I’ll kill them personally. We, the Dark Camp, don’t need such mindless fools. Momenla, remember their names, and their scent, we’ll settle this later.”
The surviving players were cursing under their breaths, the attack had been terrifying, and it didn’t matter what type of melee or ranged player you were or what invincible skills you had, if you were touched by the laser, you’d be out.
Furthermore, a few of their teammates had also been killed, and importantly, being killed here meant no resurrection. They would have to respawn at the teleportation location, and coming back would mean random teleportation again. God knows where they would end up next, regrouping would be as difficult as ascending to the heavens.
In effect, they achieved nothing and lost more than a squad of members.
Now they all wished they could tear this team apart, regardless of the punishment they might face back home, no one had any sympathy.
“I knew it was a mistake to bring rookies along. No organization, no discipline, they almost got me killed.” The female goblin was evidently livid.
“Those guys, they acted on their own behind my back, they deserved to die, don’t be angry, let’s leave it to the boss when we get back.” The male goblin was also fuming, but right now, unlocking the gate was of the utmost importance, and so was his own life, hence he didn’t further indulge in the fury.
“See what happened, all of you better smarten up and not act rashly.” After telling them, Li Yao lowered his head and began to solve the fourth riddle.
The members of Li Yao’s protection squad looked at each other, also unnerved, they had seen everything crystal clear.
Just now, two mages had used Ice Barriers, and a paladin had deployed a Holy Shield, but these invincible skills were instantly disintegrated before the beam of light, as though they were as fragile as paper instead of unbeatable.
“Alright, we got it,” War Horizon grumbled reluctantly.
Without saying, they had their own thoughts, but after these events, they had come to realize that without the NPC’s guidance, they couldn’t explore this place.
If anyone had any ulterior motives, they better put them aside now, the loss of being killed here is significant.
This time, Li Yao took even longer, solving the fourth riddle after fifteen minutes.
The goblin, pushed by Li Yao, finally solved the first riddle, underperforming.
“I’m sorry, it appears you’re the one to be sacrificed.” Li Yao began to solve the last lock.
“Not necessarily, the last point is often the hardest, I still have a chance.” The male goblin’s eyes were extremely red, he couldn’t accept this failure. After speaking, he fully immersed himself in solving the second riddle, seeking an opportunity to live.
The female goblin felt anxious but there was nothing she could do. In this kind of situation, no one could help, it was up to oneself.
If he couldn’t complete the unlock process, he’d have to be the sacrificial lamb to open this portal.
As Li Yao started unlocking all the points, everyone from both sides became tense.
Time passed second by second, and the atmosphere on both sides increasingly assumed the aspect of a drawn bow ready to snap. If it hadn’t been for Li Yao’s Death God 4000 serving as a deterrent, the female goblin would have ordered the killing of the few rookies long ago.
Twenty minutes later, the male goblin cheered, “Hahaha, I’ve completed the second point, I am indeed a genius. What about you? Stuck at the last node, I assume. Just wait and watch as I surpass you, I told you, my skill in engineering surpasses you by a large margin, I can’t be inferior to you. Hahaha.”
Li Yao lifted his head and said, “I knew you’d be in denial, but unfortunately, fate is not on your side. I’m sorry, I’ve unlocked the final node.”
As Li Yao spoke, he gestured, and the last ray extended out, forming a few points into a bizarre pattern, finally disappearing, the entire gate flashed with a bit of light, the starlight vanished, turning into an immeasurably large stone door.
“No, no, this can’t be.” The male goblin couldn’t accept this outcome, not to mention his side, they couldn’t accept it either.
“Nothing is impossible, you still have five minutes, good luck.” After Li Yao finished, he no longer spoke.
Li Yao’s side was jubilant, one of their tasks was to unlock at least three portals, they hadn’t expected to complete one shortly after entering, of course they were thrilled.
On the other hand, it was a scene of gloom, but the tense atmosphere persisted.
“No, no, let me out.” The male goblin tried to command his puppet to break out, but he seemed to be trapped by a layer of light, no matter how much he struggled, he couldn’t break free.
“Don’t worry, I’ll avenge you.” A trace of red flashed in the female goblin’s eyes. Although goblins are essentially cold-hearted, it is still very infuriating to watch their friends die before them.
“No, I don’t want to die. Save me. Attack quickly. Save me.” The male goblin, realizing he could not solve the remaining riddles in five minutes, was hysterical. Having such a clear awareness of how much time one has left is torture in itself, let alone for a goblin.
