Chapter 325: Chapter 322 Receiving Goods
In the ventilation duct, the light from the torch grew fainter, until after the last flicker, the entire passage was engulfed in utter darkness.
There’s no oxygen left!
By now, there was no need for Bi Fang to remind everyone, as the online friends already knew the situation was critical.
He had been crawling for a long time, and at this point, a lack of oxygen was no joke.
Cao Lifeng, who had been watching all along, furrowed his brow intently and hurriedly sent a small gift, hoping Bi Fang could carry on, and even encouraged the others to join in the support.
A few of the online friends had no choice but to part with their long-cherished Wolf Brush, their hearts pounding as they continued to watch the live stream.
“I practice Wilderness Survivalist techniques in this abandoned city, navigating through man-made obstacles. Did you all turn on night vision mode because of me? Actually, I’m just crawling through a ventilation duct.”
Bi Fang made a joke with the newcomers watching the stream, then continued to climb further in.
Helicopters have a term called the point of no return, meaning that past this point, they can no longer return as the fuel will not suffice for the return flight, and they must continue towards the destination.
The situation was similar now, but Bi Fang had measured the length of the ventilation duct, and the exit wasn’t far away.
“I’m trying to enter this building to search for essential survival supplies, but my torch has gone out. The part of the ventilation duct I’m in is getting narrower and narrower. It’s hard for people to like such constricted places. Surviving in tight spaces requires a lot of attention, and you must remain calm and not panic.
Once you panic, your chest cavity will expand, making the tight space feel even tighter. We’re almost at the end.
Cough cough, so much dust… This section is particularly narrow, but I can see a glimmer of light at the end of the duct. I just need to squeeze through a bit more, controlling my breath as much as possible. However, the duct is full of dust and grease, and my airways are almost completely clogged by it.”
Finally, the sensation of difficulty breathing gradually subsided, and the ventilation duct became increasingly spacious.
Looking ahead at the lushness in front of him, Bi Fang wanted to kick it down, but the tight space made it impossible for him to adjust his position, so he could only slap it with one palm after another.
The rivets trembled slightly, with wall dust falling in flurries.
A faint sound of metal hitting the ground was heard as a rivet was dislodged.
The audience cheered, urging Bi Fang to speed up until the third rivet came loose and Bi Fang, with a burst of strength, eagerly pushed out the grille!
Damn it, finally out.
Bi Fang poked his head out, taking deep breaths of the fresh air outside.
There was still plenty of dust, but it was nothing compared to the inside of the ventilation duct.
After catching his breath, Bi Fang looked around and slowly crawled out of the duct.
“Let’s see if this place was worth all the effort I put into getting here. Such old buildings can be a rare treasure trove for survivalists.”
[Ah ha, I’m on it, this is looting, right? Time to search for goods.]
[Sounds like someone who’s seasoned in battle royales.]
[Haha, you’re making me want to play a round right now.]
“Huh, it’s pretty spacious.”
After crawling out of the air vent, Bi Fang glanced around; perhaps it was because it was the top floor, but there were no machines, just vast open space.
Shaking off the dust from his body, Bi Fang continued to walk deeper in.
Along the way, he encountered many doors, all locked, and they were all hefty metal doors.
Bi Fang tried to break through one, but failed.
It wasn’t until he came across an unlocked bathroom that his spirits soared.
[Ah, isn’t it just a restroom…]
[Is there water?]
[Hurry up and check it out.]
Bi Fang, however, shook his head: “Water is only one aspect. Do you remember the dirty water we saw outside before we entered? That dirty water indicates that the industry this factory was involved in caused pollution. With pollution comes toxicity, and factories like this are strictly required to be equipped with first aid kits, which are usually kept in the restrooms! In case of danger and the need to wash off, one can immediately use what’s inside!”
So that’s how it is!
The audience suddenly understood.
Bi Fang immediately went in, and to his surprise, there was almost no smell.
Of course, it had been abandoned for so long.
Instead of rushing to look for the first aid kit, Bi Fang first turned on the tap.
Still no water.
Bi Fang’s brow furrowed, utterly unexpected there was no water, and just as he felt disheartened, suddenly, a stream of dark brown water began to slowly flow out of the faucet. Initially, the flow was very small, but after a few sputters, the flow abruptly increased!
There really was water, thank goodness!
[But this is all brown, isn’t it rust? Is it drinkable?]
[Wow, is this some sort of paranormal adventure? Red water, like a scene from a horror movie.]
[Newcomer? This is wilderness exploration.]
Bi Fang took a long breath, finally finding water, “Rust isn’t a problem, as long as there’s water. Just need to run it longer and clean water will come out, but it might take a while, it’s nearly been a month of rust, can’t clean it in a jiffy.”
Having said that, Bi Fang began to search for the crux of this mission, the First Aid kit.
Sure enough, fortune favors the diligent. As he rounded a partition, he really found it, right there in the nearby showcase!
“Locked again?”
Bi Fang tugged at it, unsurprisingly to no avail.
No other choice, he took a steel rebar from his backpack and smashed it towards the showcase.
But the next second, Bi Fang, whose hands tingled from the vibration, staggered back, staring at the unscathed glass in astonishment.
Tempered glass!
Was there really a need for tempered glass in such a place? Too much money to spend?
Bi Fang, massaging his numb palms, silently cursed.
“This is made of tempered glass; the rebar’s hard impact made my hands hurt. We need to think of another way.”
Bi Fang looked around, then suddenly stepped out of the restroom and came to a corner where there was a small rack with items like promotional sides and newspapers on it.
He casually pulled out a newspaper, the most recent issue was from February.
Taking all the papers at once, Bi Fang rolled them into a cylindrical shape, without leaving any gaps inside, then folded them against each other, making the middle as hard as steel.
“Let’s see if the newspaper can break it. If folded correctly, ordinary paper can be almost as strong as a Wolf Fang baton, just by simple folding it becomes very hard.”
After swinging it a couple of times, Bi Fang was quite satisfied. Returning to the showcase, just one hit and the glass was covered in spiderweb-like cracks, not a single area unscathed.
Good lord, the audience was stunned by the power of this newspaper, could it really be this impressive?
Seeing the effect, Bi Fang pressed his advantage and within three strikes, the tempered glass burst into pieces.
He grabbed the First Aid kit out in one go, flipping through it briefly.
There were wound dressings for bandaging wounds, small scissors, bandages, alcohol, and even potassium permanganate.
Bi Fang opened a cap and recognized the deep purple substance at a glance.
“Good stuff, potassium permanganate dissolved in water can clean wounds and turns purple when absorbing water. It’s also a great marker. If it’s an icy, snowy area, you can sprinkle it on snow to mark for airplanes. It has many other uses too. I’m taking it.”
One could say that with this medical kit, Bi Fang’s foray into the factory was not in vain; it was, in fact, a huge gain.
Back at the faucet, the rusty water finally turned clear. Bi Fang immediately unraveled the bandage on his right hand.
The skin over the blister stuck to the bandage, making people cringe, even peeling off a small piece of skin, revealing reddish-white inflamed tissue that seemed to be purulent.
Hiss.
The viewers couldn’t help but clench their hands, feeling a wave of pain.
Now with medication at hand, it was sure to disinfect and rebandage.
“When using alcohol, make sure to check its concentration; the best is seventy-five percent, not too high or too low.
Alcohol kills germs by denaturing and coagulating proteins, which requires a certain concentration of alcohol.
The optimal concentration is 75%. Too low needs no explanation, but if the concentration is too high, it makes the protein denature too quickly, forming a tough layer of denatured protein on the surface of bacteria. It’s like giving bacteria a protective shell, preventing the alcohol from penetrating further into the bacteria, thus lowering the germicidal effect.”
After disinfecting and rebandaging the wound, Bi Fang felt much relief. He took a couple of sips of clear water and continued searching, but no further luck came easily.
“Since there’s nothing good left on the top floor, let’s go down and check. The exit in the stairwell is locked; we need to find another way.”
“There was an elevator earlier, definitely without power, but if we can get into the shaft, we could use it to descend.”
Bi Fang circled around to the elevator door and conducted a brief search.
“Elevators usually have an emergency switch for firefighters, an off-power leveling device. With this emergency switch, firefighters can access the shaft even without power. You see, right here!”
He pressed a red button, and the elevator seemed to show no change, leaving even Bi Fang unsure if it had worked.
After watching silently for half a minute, Bi Fang thought it might not have…
[So it’s useless, huh?]
[Hahaha, I’m dying, thought it would open the door]
“No worries, there’s a backup plan.”
Bi Fang, unfazed, took out a piece of wire he had found somewhere and slid it into the elevator door gap, gliding upward until he hit resistance.
“Looks like the core is here!”
Overjoyed at finding the lock core, Bi Fang reinserted the wire and fiddled around for a while. After hearing a slight click, he quickly put down the wire and took out a crowbar.
“Let’s see if it’s movable… careful, careful, careful, the elevator is definitely not on this floor, it’s at least seven floors away, we need to find a way down, but
