Chapter 44: Making Blades Through Zither Music
Muyan had just come out of the space when she heard a great shaking coming from the ground.
She also heard the chilling roars of beasts and terrified, shrill screams of humans.
What was going on?
Were all the beasts in Forest Mist rioting? But why?
Suddenly, Muyan felt a soft warmth at her feet.
She looked down and saw the white rabbit had somehow woken up.
It was rubbing itself against her feet, and its round, pink eyes were hidden by its white fur, hiding its emotions.
But Muyan felt that its warm body against her feet seemed to be trembling.
“Why are you so scared?” Muyan asked lightly.
The rabbit clung to her more tightly, and its body trembled more violently.
A faint smile appeared on Muyan’s mouth then she picked up the rabbit and threw it into the space.
It’s my son’s pet and playmate—how could I just let it die or lose it?
As soon as she tossed the rabbit in, the ground shook more violently under her feet.
The roars of beasts and the great shaking of the ground were also getting closer and closer to her.
Muyan frowned. She grabbed the vines hanging from the edge of the cliff and climbed up quickly.
With Mystic power fluctuations, Muyan climbed to the top of the cliff after several breaths’ time.
The fog was still thick, but she could see the beasts running around wildly from above.
She also saw those humans who had entered Forest Mist in search of treasures, only to become mud at the feet of beasts.
Suddenly, Muyan’s expression changed and she turned sharply.
Behind her slowly emerged a group of huge, half-human, tall, red-tailed wolves.
Three… five… ten… a hundred…
Within a short while, on the mountain where Muyan was standing, hundreds of red-tailed wolves appeared.
Muyan stepped back with a serious look on her face.
Suddenly, another squeaking sound came from below the cliff.
Muyan turned her head and saw that the cliff she had just climbed was covered with huge rats.
Muyan’s path in front was now blocked and she was being chased from behind.
In such a desperate situation, however, a faint smile curled up at Muyan’s mouth, and her watery eyes shifted with a charming light.
In the next moment, her jade-like wrist turned and a dusty, unimpressive ancient zither appeared in her hand.
Muyan tugged at the strings with her slender fingers, creating elegant and pleasant music that spread all around.
The music immediately stopped the beasts’ approach.
Muyan’s smile deepened.
Surrounded by enemies and having been driven desperate, she flung up her dress and sat down in a handsome pose.
“Aowuuuu!” The wolf leader let out a roar, eyes red, and suddenly led the charge.
Muyan bent her fingers and pulled the strings slightly.
Zheng! With a strong sound, the red-tailed wolf in the air uttered a shrill howl as its belly was punctured with a large hole. Blood splashed.
The smell of blood filled the air and instantly inspired the ferocity of these beasts.
The red-tailed wolves and those rats roared and rushed up in groups to attack Muyan.
The corners of Muyan’s eyes lifted slightly and her movements suddenly sped up.
Do, Re, Mi, Sol, La—these five combinations of scales transformed into rousing and solemn notes which flowed from the strings.
When each note resounded, it represented the formation of a wind blade.
The Mystic power contained in the wind blade could kill a powerful red-tailed wolf in an instant.
This was the most basic group attack skill of the Tianmo Zither—making blades through zither music.
…
Higher up in the mountain tops, the mist was as thick as ice with a penetrative coldness pervading the air.
