Heavenly Jade Hall.
Ever since the matter was exposed, Ji Minglou had never come to Min Ningwan’s place again, nor did he allow his children to come over.
Min Ningwan was not allowed to go out either.
The once lively courtyard became an invisible cage.
Min Ningwan sat quietly at home and copied a scripture.
Suddenly, the curtain behind her moved.
The maidservant guarding her closed her eyes and fell.
Min Ningwan looked straight ahead. She dipped the tip of her pen in ink and continued to copy scriptures.
“Grand Madam is really elegant.”
An unfamiliar man’s voice sounded, and a shadow enveloped Min Ningwan’s head.
Min Ningwan said, “You blocked my light. I can’t see clearly.”
The unfamiliar man smiled faintly. “Grand Madam, are you copying so many scriptures to expiate the dead? Pavilion Master Lou and Madam Ru’s spirits in heaven will probably be relieved.”
Min Ningwan did not answer.
The man smiled and said, “Speaking of which, Pavilion Master Lou and Madam Ru died so miserably. Does Grand Madam not want to avenge them?”
Min Ningwan finally said, “Ru’er committed suicide and Lou Bufan was killed by my son. Who do you want me to take revenge on? Myself?”
The man smiled faintly. “Grand Madam, you’re wrong. For example, Madam gave birth to a son for the City Lord and is about to stabilize her position as the City Lord’s Madam. If not for the Hundred Flowers Palace interfering, why would Madam die? Pavilion Master Lou wouldn’t have turned against Hall Master Ji. Speaking of which, everything was caused by the Hundred Flowers Palace.”
Min Ningwan said calmly, “Did you come to tell me this?”
The man looked straight at Min Ningwan, not letting go of any expression on her face. “Lou Bufan didn’t take any jewelry with him before he left. He transported empty boxes. I think those gold, silver, and jewelry are in your hands, Madam.”
Min Ningwan said, “I don’t understand what you’re talking about.”
The man smiled. “It’s fine if Grand Madam doesn’t admit it. Take the gold, silver, and jewelry as Lou Bufan’s inheritance for you. However, the lord hopes that you can hand over the other thing.”
Min Ningwan paused. “Firstly, I didn’t take any gold, silver, or jewelry from Lou Bufan. Secondly, I’ve given you everything you need.”
The man said, “The treasure map to Emperor Wu’s tomb.”
Min Ningwan asked calmly, “Isn’t the treasure map in the City Lord’s hand?”
The man said, “The treasure map that Lou Bufan handed to the City Lord is fake. We’ve searched the Thousand Possibilities Pavilion, but the map isn’t there. Lou Bufan won’t bring such an important thing with him. Before he left, he must have gotten someone to send it to you.”
Min Ningwan continued to copy the scripture.
The man’s smile faded a little. “Grand Madam, the treasure map to Emperor Wu’s tomb is useless to you. If you don’t want your grandson to die young in the City Lord Manor for no reason, I advise you to hand over the treasure map!”
Snap.
The ink on Min Ningwan’s brush dripped onto the copied scripture.
The man’s smile deepened.
Min Ningwan placed the brush on the stand. “It’s in the hidden compartment behind you.”
The man turned around and saw a portrait of the moonlight in the lotus pond.
He lifted the painting and gently pressed the wall, revealing a secret compartment.
He took out the sheepskin scroll inside and unfolded it. He frowned and said, “Why is there only half of it?”
Min Ningwan met his gaze without dodging. “He only gave me half of it.”
The man looked at her suspiciously. “You know what happens when you betray your lord.”
Min Ningwan said neither servile nor overbearing, “My grandson is in your hands. Do I dare?”
The man looked at her deeply and put away half of the treasure map. “Where’s the medicine?”
Min Ningwan took out a small porcelain bottle from her wide sleeve. “This is the last bottle. After taking this, there’s no need…”
After the man walked away, Min Ningwan’s hand that was holding the brush finally trembled.
She took a few deep breaths and opened the eye-catching scripture on the table. The other half of the treasure map was pasted at the back.
“If I’m no longer around, this treasure map will be your last life-saving talisman. If the lord sends someone to look for you, remember, only hand over half.”
Lou Bufan’s words flashed across her mind, and she placed the scripture back on the shelf.
Soon, she turned off the lights and rested.
It was not until even breathing came from the bed that Chu Feifeng, who was lying on the roof, slowly exhaled.
She had been maintaining this posture for almost four hours and her entire body was stiff.
After Lou Bufan died, Min Ningwan seemed to have fallen silent. She did not find any useful information for many days.
Fortunately, tonight’s wait was not in vain.
