Chapter 1436: Resurrection (Part 1)
The great number of heroes surrounded the double of the Lord of Glory and Saleen heard gulping sounds from them. There was without doubt that the heroic spirits had no saliva, but they nonetheless retained the desire to eat. But then again, it was easy to tell that they were simply making those sounds to scare the Lord of Glory’s double.
“Grandmaster, there’re so many of us and there is only one him. How do you suppose we carve him out?” A warrior was unable to help but asked.
“We’ll cut him up, of course,” a mage answered.
“No, no, no. This is a light-element god. Cut him up and he would just piece himself back together.”
“Yeah, not like we can chew him up or anything,” someone who had been a death mage when they were still alive had flickering flame for eyes, and they stuck out their tongue at the Lord of Glory.
“His divine persona fragment is in the ball on his hand!” Saleen pointed at the Lord of Glory’s double and said.
The Lord of Glory’s double turned limp. He had dared to chase all the way there in the first place because that godly item’s concealment effect was so extraordinary, that not even the most powerful mage hero had been able to tell anything from it. He was wondering how that puny human mage was able to find that out.
“Alright, alright, settle down, people. A god with a divine persona fragment would need the general to be around before we could split it,” the grandmaster did not want to get on the bad side of the general. However, the general was still in slumber at the moment and waking him up without a good reason would have pissed him off.
“Grandmaster, are you sure you’re able to pay the price?” Saleen then asked the grandmaster.
“Price? What do you want? Any equipment below level 14, I can easily make just about anything for you. Level 16 ones wouldn’t be much of a problem too…”
“This god’s double injured several of my followers when I tricked him here. I want to know if they are completely dead, and if so, I want them resurrected.”
“The price for resurrection isn’t something you can pay with just a demigod, you know,” the grandmaster said with a sheepish smile.
“Well, you can say goodbye to getting even a demigod in the future then,” Saleen answered coldly.
The grandmaster was dumbfounded and said, “Who did he harm?”
“A bonded creature of mine. She’s a luoluokaluo. There is also an angel who has lost her god. A metal one.”
“Luoluokaluo…is something very hard to kill. A level 14 demigod eh…” The grandmaster then shot a look at the Lord of Glory’s double and said, “Hand over the luoluokaluo’s soul, or I shall eat you alive.”
The Lord of Glory’s double flicked his hand and a plain golden light emerged from the ball of light in his hand. The grandmaster then threw a crystal ball and took the golden light inside, handing over to Saleen and said, “Your underling’s soul is in the crystal ball and it’s incomplete. There should be another part in her body. If her body has yet to rot, that is…”
Saleen took the crystal ball and recalled. Nailisi’s heart had been pierced and her body dropped to the ground, which was then being snatched away by the Winged Skull. There was no way the Winged Skull would have let her dead body be damaged. He put the crystal ball away without saying anything and then added, “This won’t do.”
The grandmaster then replied exasperatedly, “But I can’t leave this place, you know. If you would bring me outside, it would be a simple thing saving a luoluokaluo.”
“I’d bring her here.”
“I’m not going to do anything about the angel though.”
“That is up to you,” Saleen answered coldly. If the grandmaster were to simply leave Rafel be, then he would have decided never to show up there again.”
“I’d look into it. Take that angel’s body here as well.” The general’s voice was heard from afar, specifically from his grave.
“Release me, and I shall bring you people more gods.” The Lord of Glory’s double finally said something. He observed the conversation between Saleen and the grandmaster and knew deep down, that Saleen had baited him there to conclude a trade.
That was to say that Saleen was selling him.
If that was the case, then he would have also been capable of negotiate with those ghosts. He had taken quite a number of gods and he had no problem exchanging their lives for his.
Saleen smirked coldly and the grandmaster answered expectedly, “Dude, I could trade with a human mage, but you’re a god. We’ve never traded with gods throughout our lives. That is especially when you’re now food. Have you heard of anyone negotiating with their food?”
The Lord of Glory’s double had completely fallen to despair by then. The ball of light in his hand flickered for a bit and was then snuffed out.
The grandmaster smirked and said, “Even if your main body shows up here, you still won’t be able to shake yourself loose from this magic array. Don’t waste your effort. Just sit back and wait for death to claim you. I’ve said that I’m not going to eat you alive, and you’re lucky that I do that.”
Saleen then looked at the Lord of Glory’s double. That look finally instilled fear into the Lord of Glory.
That look from Saleen was not actually one of hatred, yet the Lord of Glory knew right there and then, that the human had decided deep down, to annihilate his divine kingdoms.
That was indeed what was going on in Saleen’s head. He had no idea if Nicholas had ended up dead. The fallen holy master was still alive when he left, yet judging from how the lesser prophecy spell he cast had actually worked on the demigod, Nicholas had probably paid the price with his life.
Lesser prophecy spells were fallen divine spells that were incapable of being reversed. Saleen felt very said deep down. That old man could have actually remained alive and watched Saleen succeed.
Nicholas was not a bad man. He was actually one of the handful of good men found in the Holy See, which was why he was marginalized and sent to do missions that were hardly useful, yet dangerous.
Saleen recalled everything they did together when he was fighting alongside Nicholas. He was still hoping deep down that the old man would have still been alive.
Gods were not entirely useless. For instance, the Lord of Glory asked for his believers to be peaceful, just, brave and good. There was no doubt that the Lord of Glory himself was incapable of doing any of that, but it did not change the fact that those qualities he required of his believers were good. From Saleen’s perspective, there was quite a bit of good qualities left on Nicholas.
The general came before the Lord of Glory’s double and looked at Saleen’s back far away. He then said to the grandmaster, “Why the hell do you keep playing the kid for?”
“Playing him?” The grandmaster was puzzled.
The general was rather exasperated. The grandmaster’s temperament was such that he had actually been really polite with Saleen. However, he just kept beating the bush and refusing what Saleen asked, which made Saleen really frustrated.
As such, Saleen ended up not caring about propriety and simply left so much as even saying goodbye.
What the grandmaster did would not have benefited the heroic spirits much.
Saleen did not leave the Imperial City of the Abyss immediately. He went to the astrology tower first, as there were still some things that he had left behind. Those were materials specifically made for astrologers.
Saleen recalled that there were things in there specifically made for storing dead bodies. Saleen stayed at the astrology tower for a bit and took what he was looking. He then stared outside the window and saw nothing but boundless darkness.
Just how did Gaine manage to bear with all of this?
Saleen stood in the astrology tower and thought how Gaine hoped that he would have become an astrologer. However, that wish would have never come true. This is the last time I’d show up in the astrology tower. I’ve taken everything in the tower. If some astrologer in Myers Mainland capable of inheriting your powers were to show up in Myers Mainland, I’d bring them here.
Saleen prayed deep down and made his decision, to never use the power of astrologers ever again.
His proficiency at astrology was only at level ten. His achievements would have still been limited even if he were to continue learning, and it ould have impeded his progress. Learning astrology was simply too time-consuming.
His lifespan was limited and his enemies were so powerful. The only way forward for him was to dedicate himself to studying magic and advancing diligently, as well as enhancing his combat prowess. The Lord of Glory was that powerful, and the fact made him realize a lot of things.
He had found it peculiar why Lex had chosen to bear with what those in the Golden Plains were doing. If he were to support and advise her with all he had at the moment, it would have been possible to actually rule the empire with an iron fist.
Saleen came to realize after meeting the Lord of Glory, that Lex simply had too many people she needed to protect.
It would have taken just one of Saleen’s followers being dead to have him turn into a wreck. He then realized that was how things worked with Lex.
Saleen only left the Imperial City of the Abyss after he had straightened his thoughts out. He quickly came to the external fringes of the Oceanic Ice Block and loked for the island that he had taken. He then returned to Ceylon City, which was his home city. Saleen had no idea where the Winged Skull would have ran to with Nailisi’s dead body, but the safest and nearest city he was able to find at that moment, was none other than Ceylon City.
So long as the gods were not attacking the place, the magic net installed in that city would have been able to keep the Winged Skull safe.
Saleen continued to call the Winged Skull using the contract between them. The Winged Skull had indeed returned to the area where the city was, and furthermore, The Winged Skull had returned to the house where Saleen used to live when he was young.
When Saleen arrived at the stone house, the place had been completely sealed in black ice.
The Winged Skull had once managed Ceylon City, so no one would have had anything to say about them. There was not even a single soldier found around the stone house.
There were only several golden skeletons standing guard around the place. Saleen called from outside of the house and a teleportation portal appeared on the black ice. Saleen passed through the portal on the ice and went into the house. The Winged Skull was waiting in the living room.
“Master!”
“What happened to all of them?” Saleen asked anxiously.
“Nailisi is dead, Rafel is done for, Nicholas…he should still be alive. If he were to die, I could transform him into a spirit.”
“Where is Nailisi’s body?”
“Upstairs. I’ve kept it safe using Death Freezing, master…”
“I’m taking her to the Imperial City of the Abyss so that the grandmaster could save her,” Saleen said and walked up the stairs. He used to have some recollections or thoughts in his mind when he came back to the house, thinking about some details that had to do with his childhood. At that moment however, all he was able to think of was the dead imp.
If Nailsi were to be lost forever, Saleen felt that he would have lost something in his soul.
Saleen had the Winged Skull enter his magic amplifier. He then protected Nailisi’s dead body with a crystal coffin. There was no way he could have repaired the body if it was damaged.
Rafel was not doing so well and Saleen had her rest in the magic cube. The combat angel had totally fallen into a coma. However, energy still worked within her body. Nicholas was still conscious, but he was no longer able to control his body and there were signs of his soul being damaged.
Saleen headed from Ceylon City’s teleportation portal straight to the Oceanic Ice Block without saying anything. He was traveling at his greatest speed in that trip. It took less than half a day for him to return to the Oceanic Ice Block.
He no longer cared if anyone dicovered the place. If Nailisi were to lose her chance at resurrection due to him being too careful, Saleen would have regretted it for the rest of his life.
The imp needed someone to protect her after all, despite the fact that she herself had always been the first to charge when there was danger. She never hesitated.
