Chapter 408: 149, trapped in the airport, Lin Mo angrily scolds!_1
Wu Jingguo glanced at the incoming call information, and with a smile that seemed to imply foreknowledge, he said, “Chen Shanhe’s call, it looks like he already knows we’ve arrived at Northern Sea.”
The other three elders all nodded slightly with calm expressions.
Surprising?
Not surprising at all.
Who doesn’t have their own intelligence network? They’re all well aware of each other’s significant moves.
Moreover, they hadn’t kept their trip to Northern Sea a secret. Anyone with a slight connection to flight control could access their flight information.
They were only there to watch the excitement and didn’t mind others knowing they had come.
Wu Jingguo answered the phone and turned on the speakerphone, taking the initiative to greet, “Hello, Brother Shanhe, hope all is well with you.”
From the phone came Chen Shanhe’s voice, “Brother Jingguo, hope all is well with you too. It’s rare that you would answer my call. You should know, nowadays many see me as an old shoe, desperately avoiding any association with me, Mr. Chen.”
Chen Shanhe wasn’t really speaking for Wu Jingguo to hear, but for the others on the plane to listen.
Having dealt with each other their whole lives, Chen Shanhe was certain that Wu Jingguo would have the speakerphone on and that there’d be more than just him on the plane.
Sure enough, upon Chen Shanhe’s words, two of the elders’ expressions changed slightly.
But at their level, managing facial expressions was a basic skill; naturally, they wouldn’t let anyone detect anything abnormal.
“Haha…” Wu Jingguo laughed carelessly twice, and said, “Brother Shanhe, I’m not aware of, nor do I wish to know about, the outside world’s opinion of you. But as for you, I still hold a great deal of respect.”
“Even if you are temporarily facing difficulties, like a dragon lying in shallow waters, I still consider you to be a dragon amongst men.”
Chen Shanhe’s reputation in the circle had never been good, mainly because he was self-made, with no significant backing.
Born at the bottom, stayed at the bottom for life.
In a circle that values background above all else, Chen Shanhe’s character was often not highly regarded. He had suffered his fair share of frustration in his early years trying to fit into the circle.
It was this very reason that made Chen Shanhe despise those traditional families in the circle.
But as Chen Shanhe’s power grew in time and he became strong enough that the major clans could no longer ignore or underestimate him, they had no choice but to reluctantly accept the existence of the Rakshasa Chen Family.
While they were harmonious on the surface, underneath, it was an unspoken mutual disdain.
Chen Shanhe would not be dizzied by a few flattering words. He calmly said, “Brother Jingguo, you flatter me too much. I am now but a beaten dog, a dying old dog that nobody cares for. But, I am quite interested in you, Brother Jingguo. May I ask you a question?”
A beaten dog?
Heh.
Wu Jingguo knew very well that anyone daring to kick Chen Shanhe while he was down was bound to suffer.
This guy had cards up his sleeve that even he couldn’t see through.
Unfazed, Wu Jingguo chuckled, “There’s no need for Brother Shanhe to belittle himself. If you have a question, just ask it. If I know the answer, I shall reply.”
Without beating around the bush, Chen Shanhe asked directly, “Brother Jingguo, did you also come to Northern Sea interested in Lin Mo?”
An expected question.
Even before picking up the call, Wu Jingguo could guess that Chen Shanhe’s main concern would be whether any new players had entered the game.
After all, Chen Shanhe seemed to be in decline at the moment, and it was only logical that some might not resist the urge to make a move against him.
Wu Jingguo answered frankly, “Frankly speaking, I am indeed very interested in Lin Mo.”
“However, Brother Shanhe, rest assured. My trip to Northern Sea City is purely out of boredom to witness the excitement, and of course, I hope that you, Brother Shanhe, will be reborn from the ashes.”
“And, in my view, your current troubles don’t seem so dire that they’re beyond salvage.”
Because they were both from Rakshasa City, Wu Jingguo had a relatively close relationship with Chen Shanhe.
Every so often, Chen Shanhe would make a point to visit him in person.
Their relationship ended there; Wu Jingguo wouldn’t risk helping the fallen Chen Family.
“That would be best. I wouldn’t want our relationship to change over a Lin Mo,” saying this, Chen Shanhe’s tone darkened, and he added coldly, “I know many are rushing to Northern Sea, all probably eager to see me fail.”
“Please convey a message for me, Brother Jingguo.”
“Anyone with designs on me, Chen Shanhe, let them come and try.”
“Of course, if they can stand by and watch, then bygones will be bygones, and I, Chen Shanhe, will surely have a generous gift for them in the future.”
Though Chen Shanhe appeared calm, inside he was unsettled upon hearing that many heavy hitters were heading to Northern Sea.
But not out of fear.
Chen Shanhe had plenty of experience dealing with the major families.
If anyone tried to take advantage of the situation against him, as long as Chen Shanhe was willing to make certain sacrifices, he was ready to make them pay a heavy price.
Lin Mo knew to leave a way out for himself, and the ways out available to Chen Shanhe were sure to be no fewer than Lin Mo’s.
He too had trump cards.
However, Chen Shanhe’s current focus was on finding Lin Mo.
If at this crucial juncture, outsiders interfered in Northern Sea City, causing his plans to falter and Lin Mo to escape the city, or even the country, that would be a real problem.
