Chapter 2341: Half-Brother

Shao Yin felt anxious and angry at the same time. There was no way that she would be able to sleep tonight. If she could not get a good resolution to this matter, she would continue to feel uneasy.
“I know that you’re anxious, but you have to give her the space to say her piece. It’s useless to be so anxious about this matter. Let’s take our time to deal with it. We still have time,” Qiao Mei said to Shao Yin with an unusual amount of patience.
Xia Wen arranged for a team of five or six people to keep an eye on Shao Le. He would not let her get a chance to leave this place. If she went missing, there would be no way to turn the situation around.
The next morning, Shao Yin sat down in front of Shao Le. Although she was very angry, she managed to communicate with Shao Le calmly. Shao Le could only write down fragmented accounts of what happened and could not provide them with the entire process to use as evidence.
“What do you mean by you went to the supermarket, dropped off the tobacco and the transaction was completed! How was the money paid to you! Why did you have to send the tobacco to the supermarket! You didn’t write anything meaningful! Are you lying to me! Is it because you don’t want to tell me! You must want to kill me and Xia Xing! You can’t bear to see me doing well since we are children! You must be doing this on purpose!” Shao Yin pointed at Shao Le and shouted at her.
“I’m not… Really, I’m not… That’s all I can remember… I’m not doing this on purpose…” Shao Le said fearfully.
Qiao Mei hurriedly held Shao Yin back. Shao Le needed to be in a quiet space now and no outsiders should be allowed to enter her room for now.
Shao Yin was about to continue asking more questions when she suddenly received news from the Shao family that her younger brother, Shao Dong, had brought his own family to the capital to visit their relatives.
Shao Dong had quite a special status in the family. After Bian Duo gave birth to Shao Yin, she fell into poor health. All of Shao Zhuang’s brothers had sons and he was the only one among them who only had two daughters. Shao Zhuang felt awkward to be in this situation, so he ended up having an affair with a widow from the neighboring village. She then gave birth to his illegitimate child, Shao Dong.
The widow was actually quite pitiful as she died not long after giving birth. As Bian Duo could not bear to see baby Shao Dong being left behind so helplessly, she had no choice but to bring him home to take care of him. She told others that he was a relative’s child and that they were taking care of him as the relative had too many children and could not cope.
“Elder Sister! Where exactly is your house! Why is it in such a remote location! We’ve walked for so long after leaving the train station and we still haven’t reached your house!” Shao Dong said unhappily.
“We’re almost there,” Shao Yin said.
Her original house had already been burned to ashes and was no longer fit for occupation. They did not have enough money for the repair works, so they could only rent a place. This was actually the same house which Xia Xing and Shao Yin had rented when they first became a couple. Xia Wen had helped them to secure the lease and the house was big enough for their family.
As soon as Shao Dong entered the house, he said disdainfully, “My dear elder sister, didn’t you say that the Xia family is very rich? Why are you living in such a place! It’s so shabby…”
“We just bought a new house, but it’s still under renovation. It’s not convenient for me to bring you there, so just stay here for a while,” Shao Yin said sheepishly.
“Alright then,” Shao Dong said doubtfully.
Shao Dong’s wife, Fang Mei, simply walked into the master bedroom with her luggage. She did not even ask Shao Yin which room they could occupy. Although Shao Yin was the biological daughter of Shao Zhuang and Bian Duo, Shao Zhuang cared more about this son. Shao Yin did not dare to offend Shao Dong at all, so she could only let them be.
“How long do you intend to stay for this visit?” Shao Yin asked again.
“Us? I don’t know. Elder Sister, why do you keep asking us about when we’re leaving? Is it because you don’t want us to stay at your place? If you don’t want us to stay here, just say it! I’ll just go and look for Father! You don’t have to behave so weirdly!” Shao Dong said agitatedly.
“That’s not what I mean! I’m just… I’m just concerned about all of you,” Shao Yin said quickly.
They could hear Fang Mei’s voice coming from the bedroom, saying, “How are we supposed to sleep on such a small bed! It’s so much smaller than our bed at home! We’ll definitely fall off the bed at night!”
Shao Dong pushed Shao Yin aside and walked into the room. He was also very dissatisfied with what he saw. Then, as if he had just thought of something, he turned to look at Shao Yin and asked, “Did my brother-in-law’s father just marry a new wife?”
“How do you know that?” Shao Yin asked in surprise.
“Is there anything that I don’t know? I heard that they just bought a new big house. I’ve never heard of a second marriage being so grand. When my brother-in-law got married, his father didn’t do anything for him. Yet when his father got married himself, he bought a new house. This is equivalent to bullying my sister! I don’t care, I want to stay in that new house! There’s definitely space for us there! Come! Let’s head there!” Shao Dong said.
