Last time Yanqing returned from a business trip, he specifically brought back some incredibly strong liquor that he was reluctant to drink himself. His thoughtfulness had Mr. Lin very much looking forward to it.

However, he forgot he had another matter slipping through the cracks.

Lin Gantang glanced at her visibly more portly father and informed him mercilessly, “A gift? I brought you a health check-up appointment. Dad, you haven’t been eating less this month, have you?”

Mr. Lin averted his eyes, his heart was guilty, but his mouth was stubborn, “This is just happy fat!”

“You can tell that to the doctor,” Lin Gantang immediately swiped her phone screen and proficiently made an appointment, “Tomorrow at ten in the morning. Do you want me to come with you or will you go alone?”

“Hey, you child!” Not cute at all, Mr. Lin reluctantly agreed, “I’ll go by myself. I’m not a child.”

He turned his head, and facing Wen Yanqing, he was all smiles again, “It must have been tiring coming all this way. Come in and sit down. Dad will make you some tea that you like.”

Lin Gantang walked behind, humming at her father’s back.

No wonder when they were abroad her father always insisted they stay a few more days before coming back. Turns out he was indulging himself at home, completely ignoring her reminders.

Upon entering the living room, Big Mi the Ragdoll cat stuck its head out from upstairs and peered down at the people arriving, then immediately ran down to circle around the feet of Wen Yanqing and Lin Gantang, meowing.

Wen Yanqing scooped it up and stroked it in his arms.

Jiang Tongtong knew the couple was coming over and had Auntie Zhang prepare their favorite meals. Lin Zhaonan came back from his company, and the family had a lively dinner together.

Before leaving, Lin Gantang pulled Lin Zhaonan aside and said, “Bro, when I’m not home keep an eye on Dad’s diet. Don’t let him eat recklessly. His cholesterol had just started to come down.”

Lin Zhaonan felt helpless, “I’ve said it, but Dad won’t listen to me. How about this, I’ll remind Auntie Zhang not to cook what he shouldn’t eat.”

As night fell, the couple returned home, escorted by the family’s three cats they were caring for.

Lin Gantang contacted Yin Zhen to ask when she was free, hoping to bring the baby over to her and have a chat.

It was quite a while before she received a reply from Yin Zhen: [Would tomorrow morning work for you? My mom and I are now staying at Mingqing Mansion.]

Lin Gantang agreed.

The next day, Wen Yanqing had returned to his company early in the morning. Lin Gantang called her father and learned he had gone for the check-up, so she left unhurriedly, asking her driver to take her to Yin Zhen’s home.

Jiang Chenying opened the door.

“Gantang?” Jiang Chenying, upon seeing Lin Gantang, exclaimed with surprise and stepped aside to let her in, “Back from vacation? What brings you here to auntie’s place? Come on in and sit.”

“Didn’t Yin Zhen tell you I was coming over today?” Lin Gantang entered with a smile.

“She probably forgot,” Jiang Chenying seated Lin Gantang and then poured her a glass of water, “She got back last night very late. I was asleep and she probably didn’t want to disturb me.”

Lin Gantang looked around the room, “Where is Yin Zhen?”

“She rushed out in a hurry just a while ago,” Jiang Chenying said worriedly. “She is planning to start a new company and has been very busy lately. We only see each other in the morning. I finally convinced her to take a day off today, and yet she rushed off again.”

Lin Gantang took out her phone, realizing she had missed a message from Yin Zhen.

She took out the Ragdoll cat from the carrier, “Here, Auntie Ying, I brought the baby over for you.”

“You could have had someone pick it up from your home; you didn’t need to make the trip,” Jiang Chenying said, feeling a bit embarrassed.

Lin Gantang laughed, “It’s no trouble. I haven’t seen you or Yin Zhen for a long time, and I wanted to come by for a chat.”

She just hadn’t expected Yin Zhen to leave her hanging halfway through.
